Retired Marine Chief Warrant Officer and renowned Combat Artist Michael Fay and another war artist, Richard Johnson, on behalf of the Smithsonian National Museum of American History, started doing artwork of Wounded Warriors this past February. In March, Johnson did an illustrated piece for Canada's National Post. Marine, infantryman and combat artist Rob Bates, a member of the International Society of War Artists (ISWA) who’s art has been included into the Marine Corps Museum's Combat Art Collection also joined in to contribute some of his amazing artwork.
In discussing the project, Fay asked Mike Corrado, a Marine and singer/songwriter to pen a song for the project. The two met in Fallujah, Iraq, 2005, while deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Corrado, an avid supporter of service related causes, and who has recently been featured on CMT, American Forces Network and CNN was immediately up to the challenge.
The result was the development of a multi-media campaign combing art, music and video to tell the story of Wounded Warriors whose lives have been forever changed and though far from the battlefield remain “Still in the Fight.”
Mission
The mission is simple; to tell the stories of our combat Wounded Warriors from their perspective utilizing artwork, music and other avenues to spread the word about their amazing determination, sacrifices and resilience. Create a multi-facetted documentary tribute to our Wounded Warriors which will be distributed to mainstream video music channels, national and regional radio and television media outlets, hospitals, rehabilitation centers, museums and more in order to spread the word of their struggles and victories.
The Impact
Upon release, proceeds from the single, video and DVD will benefit organizations that directly support Wounded Warriors from all US military services.
