Overview
We are an interdisciplinary team of musicians and theater artists collaborating together to create six brand new opera scenes in Spring 2017. We come from The Juilliard School, Columbia University, and NYU — from diverse backgrounds as composers, playwrights, directors, singers, actors, instrumentalists and designers — to tell the complex and relevant human stories of our time. But we need your help to go from page to stage! Help OperaComp succeed by donating today. Thank you for your support!

We are OperaComp

The Opera-Composer Collaborative Project, or OperaComp, is a collective of theater artists and musicians dedicated to giving voice to the future of the American opera theater, today. This interdisciplinary laboratory for developing brand new opera combines the forces of composers, playwrights, directors, singers, actors, instrumentalists and designers under one roof. Here we cultivate a unique, collaborative process of devising new work together from page to stage. OperaComp provides a home for artists and audiences of a new generation to share the complex, diverse human stories of our time, challenging age-old stereotypes about the art form. Our inaugural season launches in the spring of 2017 with a semester-long residency in New York City featuring students and alumni from The Juilliard School, NYU, and Columbia University, which will culminate in a performance of six world premiere opera scenes crafted by six unique collaborative teams.

But we can't do this alone — we need your help!!

Putting on staged works is a complex and expensive process, and funds are needed for the performance space, the payment of singers and directors, publicity for the program, audio and video recording, and for scene production and performance costs. We have been sponsored in part by a generous $500 Project Grant from The Juilliard School*, but we are hoping to raise an additional $3000 for our collaboration to truly shine. If we raise more than our goal, additional funds will go towards bringing in props, costumes, and potentially adding additional performances in New York City.

This is where you come in!!

Every dollar goes a very long way toward making this collaboration possible. Spread the word to your friends, colleagues, and anyone willing to listen. With your support, we really can make new opera a reality. And for those of you who would like an added bonus, check out the donation perks below!

How else can you help? OperaComp is taking donations of stage props for the performance! Please send an email to operacompnyc@gmail.com for information on how to make that possible.

Thank you so much, and without further ado, let's make music!
