Bio: I am the supervising producer & co-writer of Fruit of the Tree.

I co-produced our award-winning feature Gettin' Grown, recruiting & managing more than 50 volunteers in the art dept., craft services, & cast, & serving as creative consultant to the writer/director.

I helped produce, write, culturally adapt, direct & edit 28 live-action & voice-over parent education videos in English & Spanish, in distribution world-wide.

I've been an adult educator for 39 years & a social activist all my life. My focus has been the rights of women, children, minorities & the poor, & ensuring access to community resources for marginalized groups. I founded & administered a number of community organizations, among them a women's health center, a farm worker self-help organization, & a training center for Spanish-speaking early childhood educators.

My film-making goal is to address important social issues in nuanced & intriguing ways that enlighten as they entertain. I also seek to provide opportunities for creative work & growth for under-represented & emerging talent in my community.

Some of my most gratifying work has been as a mother, step-mother, & foster mother. I speak 4 languages & have worked in several countries. I now dedicate myself to filmmaking full time.

Thanks so much Dr. Fran! We are still fund raising for the Mouth of Babes project. Our family is having a reunion in Papua New Guinea in July. My sister Ruthie (star of our show) was born in PNG, I hope to be able to film her and her children enjoying a traditional PNG feast as a grande finale to the next season we film. I hope as the project expands to be able to provide the resources for people all over the world to document their food preparations.
That is beautiful.
Ah yeah, sorry I am confused. I was referring to the tikun olam (Heal the World)...
I'm Jewish and the language is Hebrew. It is pronounced Tee-KOON oh-LAHM. To heal the world is considered a mitzvah (commandment/good deed) and is very fundamental to Jewish belief and practice. Thanks for asking!
Dr. Fran, thanks so much for your endorsement. I am very excited by your project as well. Great that you speak 4 languages! What language is your title in? Sounds like Malay...
Hi HellaD, Thanks for writing. Re: your question about the language of the title: Perhaps you have it confused with someone else's. Our film is called Fruit of the Tree -- just plain old English.
I didn't grow up with films. Saw my first serious ones in college. When my son went to film school, I realized the power of film as the literature of our day. I started watching and teaching myself about film to support my son Aaron. I offered to put my administrative skills to work as a producer for Gettin' Grown -- and got hooked! Now my son is my teacher, and we have written a screenplay together (Fruit of the Tree) that is a new way for me to do "tikkun olam"- as social justice activist.
