INTRODUCTION
When passion for adventure in Bangkok, Thailand evolves into an intensive exploration of the Kathoey community, questions ensue.
What is the difference between Eastern and Western culture as it pertains to the acceptance of either a transgender woman or an effeminate gay male? In LADY BANGKOK BUDDHA BOY, IDA Films takes you into a world that many believe is only visible in a dream. Join us as we explore a handful of Kathoey stories, their family bonds and severances, the tragic reprimands given to them for supposed crimes committed and the spiritual moments that make up their lives.
IDA FILMS
IDA FILMS is a New York and Stockholm based based independent production company established in 2012 by Swedish born Director Stefan Blomquist and Co-founders Kojenwa Moitt and Lauryn Garza. The company focuses on developing ideas and producing works in both non-fiction and fiction filmmaking with a strong focus on social issues, human rights and underdog protagonists. At our core we are all anthropologists and our combined curiosities for other cultures lead us to explore beloved places like Thailand, India, Cambodia, Vietnam and North-Africa to name a few. This together with our cumulative background in the Arts, PR, Marketing and Business makes us a unique and passionate team to work with.
Our first film Miss D premiered at the Short Film Corner at the Cannes Film Festival in 2012 and later went on to screen in over 20 countries.
WHAT WE NEED AND WHAT YOU GET
The funds raised on INDIEGOGO will cover the Production and Post Production phases of the project. Most of the funds will be used for our DP related costs, Equipment Rental and Post Production. A full Budget breakdown is available upon request as well as a copy of our Development Package, Budget Sheet and Project Timelines.
As a supporter for this project you will not only be supporting this film but also a young film company that stays true to our VISION; To continually strive towards producing a unique and visually flawless quality of film that advocates anthropology while exposing social issues or raw human nature that is generally hidden.
THE IMPACT
With this film we hope to contribute to the ever evolving Liberal Revolution.
Our key objectives include: clarifying misconceptions regarding the transgender community and raising social awareness particularly in areas where freedom of expression is still suppressed.
RISKS AND CHALLENGES
If we were not to raise our complete fundraising goal the funds raised through INDIEGOGO would be put aside solely for the completion of this project at a later date. The IDA TEAM is fully committed to completing LADY BANGKOK BUDDHA BOY and we are aware of our upcoming challenges and face them with great respect and excitement.
We are confident that we can take this project to the International Film Festival Circuit with and intended Theatrical Release and Distribution Deal.
