Synopsis: Madeline is not your average suicide hotline worker. She struts into the office casting a spell to the workers all around. She's different. She is not who you expect to answer when calling for help. She's who you expect to be on the cover of your latest fashion magazine.
This 60's film noir follows a day in the life of Madeline. It's a journey of her sinister experience working as a hotline assistance worker. The audience sees her twisted world first hand.
One may think she is just here to help, a worker for the greater good. However, Madeline is here for something else.
This films is a commentary on how people lie to themselves in order to feel more powerful or more successful. Check out my Q & A in my announcements to read more about the project!
This is an adaptation of Michael Lamios short story "1-800-Suicide" Michael Lamio is the Author of Seven novels and over 100 short stories in the horror genre. He has been twice nominated for the Bram Stoker Award.

Q & A
Here are some questions that have been asked about the project.
Does she feel like people killing themselves lack courage, and so her mission is to help them finish the job?
Madeline does see people who are killing themselves as lacking courage. She believes that there is no reason for someone to take their own life. Shit happens but there is always a way to continue living. On top of this Madeline see's the people she targets as easy kills. These people were already about to attempt suicide therefore if she steps in and finishes the job then it wont look like murder. She is using the Suicides as a cover for her love of killing other people. Her mission is to satisfy her enjoyment of killing those not worthy of life because of their weak minds without getting caught.
Is this the first time she's killed someone, or a repeat thing?
This is not the first time. She has killed many people before this point in the story. We are getting a glimpse into world when she is at the peak of her fun. The audience watches her routine and is tricked just as everyone around her is tricked by her actions.
What link is there between her childhood experience and the killing of John at the film's end?
The childhood experience is meant to be the first time she experiences death. Instead of hating it she loves it. From that we see her curiosity which turns into an obsession by the end of the film. The man on the phone is a link meant to show this change from curiosity to obsession.
Horror films, no matter how silly or sensational, usually use excess to magnify and critique a certain aspect of human nature or society. What are you trying to make us think or feel about life through this story?
This story is about those people who use others to make themselves feel superior. They "save" peoples lives so that they can feel stronger or more powerful. It is a sense of playing god. Madeline is meant to be the break from that. She recognizes that her obsession is completely self-serving. She does it to make herself feel better. My scene where everyone is talking around the water cooler is meant to show how these people act when they save a persons life. They see themselves as better people and feel they can command the attention of whomever they want. The break is that these people don't see that they are doing this for enjoyment. |
