What is VITAphone^neo?

«VITAphone^neo» is a smart cloud-based intercom powered by Android OS, that mounts near or directly to the front door of any home. It features a 9.7" IPS LCD with touchscreen, dual cameras, microphone, speakers, biometric scanner, as well as light, temperature and humidity sensors. The device is connected to the Internet for full access from anywhere. When a visitor comes to your home, they'll use the touchscreen to do the equivalent of ringing a doorbell using the «call» button. A few seconds later you hear your doorbell ringing - from your smart phone! This lets you know about every visitor to your home even if you're in Hong Kong or Hawaii or anywhere in the world.

Unlike other entryphones available on the market, VITAphone^neo requires no additional control panel installation for each apartment. All You need is an internet-connected PC, Mac or modern smart-phone or tablet to be able to use all VITAphone^neo features. Due to the fact VITAphone^neo is much more scalable, our product is far most cost effective when compared to the current generation of entryphones and significantly superior to them in features.

VITAphone^neo system provides SMS-based device management (SMS commands are free of charge): You can open and close the door, control the alarm and video recording systems or just send a simple text message that will be displayed on the VITAphone^neo display. We have implemented a web-based interface that allows you to use and administrate your intercom from any device with internet browser support.

VITAphone^neo is mostly cordless excluding the power supply, and features a built-in rechargeable battery that allows our intercom to actively run up to 10 hours in case of power failure.

Where is VITAphone^neo useful?

VITAphone^neo has almost endless possibilities. You can open the door for your visitor without even leaving the couch by pressing a single button on your smart-phone. It's equally easy to send a door lock command to the intercom. This is an indispensable feature for the elderly or the infirm living alone who find it difficult to make their way across their home to perform routine tasks.

Thanks to the built-in biometric scanner you don't need to carry a bunch of keys to your home or office anymore. Just swipe your finger over the sensor and your door will open.

You can always see what's happening on either side of the front door. All You have to do is open the application on the smart-phone and start watching. Built-in high quality infrared cameras are capable of monitoring and even recording what's happening even in total darkness. Thanks to the PIR-motion sensor, video streaming and recording will be enabled in case of movement detection with real-time imaging instantly available on your smart phone. All of these features makes VITAphone^neo a worthy and more economical alternative to expensive security systems. Alarm system could be activated in case of unrecognized movement detection. Electric lock is blocked by VITAphone^neo in case of unauthorized attempts to open the lock, thereby denying the possibility of using lockpicks to hack it.

When security alarm system is activated VITAphone^neo will:

1. Block the electric lock.
2. Turn on alarm siren.
3. Make a call to 911 (this option is configurable).
4. Speak personalized warning message. (e.g. "Please, step away from the door. Alarm system is activated!").
5. Make a call to homeowner.
6. Send a PUSH and/or SMS notification message to homeowner.

VITAphone^neo features voice control functionality. Additional microphone located inside communication center. This allows you to control the device without a smartphone when you are indoors. You can control videostream, answer the door and control door lock using voice commands. We have provided the ability to connect remote speakers and microphone. These features are very useful for people with disabilities. Imagine, that the doctor came to a sick elderly woman to make her an injection. Thanks to VITAphone^neo she can open the door and let the doctor come in without leaving the bed.

VITAphone^neo is equipped with the face recognition function. This gives VITAphone^neo ability to identify your visitors. Thanks to this feature our device can automatically open the door for registered users. VITAphone^neo has a «voice bell» option: when a visitor pushes a «call» button device speaks the name of the visitor, instead of playing default sound, if the visitor is registered in database.

One of the most useful and important applications of VITAphone^neo for hospitals. Possibility of the device installation in the wards allows remote monitoring of patients. Thanks to aforementioned voice control feature bedridden patients can easily send notification to the doctor or nurse. If the patient feels bad, he can instantly inform the doctor by saying the passphrase. We are planning to provide the VITAphone^neo system equipment for the hospitals on a charitable basis.

Another important device application that we offer is an equipment of classrooms in schools, kindergartens and child summer camps. In this way VITAphone^neo provides the real-time monitoring ability of the children activity for their parents. In the same time, multimedia features can be used to organize the process of interactive studying. Installed in office buildings, on factories, plants or enterprises VITAphone^neo can be used for surveillance and monitoring of employees and production processes.

«VITAphone^neoAuto» version is useful for motorists. It can fully replace GPS navigator. Thanks to support of four external cameras it can act as a parking assistant, DVR and security system for anti-theft protection. This version provides an ability to control engine, door locks, sound system by voice commands, your smartphone or using VITAphone^neo touch screen, that mounts directly into the dashboard like standard sound or DVD systems. All VITAphone^neo features are available for remote control, thus allowing tracking the status and location, as well as watching real-time streaming from all cameras of your car, eg if your wife or son is driving your car. VITAphone^neo features an option to connect to the car's onboard computer via OBD connector, that allows to control mirrors, power windows, climate system, obtain computer data, perform diagnostics of Your car, as well as monitor the fuel consumption. Thanks to smart notification system you will always be informed about low battery level, tire failure, low fuel level and other options available in your car directly on your smartphone.

The simplest and most common usage case this is when you are roasting barbecue at your backyard and just can not hear the doorbell.

Communication center contains a smoke detector and in case of fire VITAphone^neo will enable an alarm siren, make a call to 911 and notify the homeowner using call, SMS and PUSH notifications. We have provided the support for remote wireless smoke detectors, that can be installed in remote rooms (sensors can be purchased separately and are not included in the package).

We decided to choose the image of the Indian Goddess of Luck and Fortune - Lakshmi, as our project logo, so she will protect your home and bring the good luck into it.

Our system provides an additional services for storing recorded data for any length of time in our remote cloud server infrastructure. Data transfer between client nodes and our secure cloud environment is protected by modern, reliable multilayered encryption algorithms keeping all of your recordings safe and secure.

You can purchase the device for yourself or if you live in an apartment building you and your fellow tenants can chip in. Once installed at the entrances of the apartment building, everyone will be able to use VITAphone^neo with personalized attention and security. The user database is unlimited so even hundreds of people living in a high-rise building can all use a single VITAphone^neo. All You need to do to get started is to install the VITAphone^neo app on a smart-phone, tablet or another device and bind it to the intercom. The GPS-enabled VITAphone^neo version is useful for mobile objects, like cars, motorcycles, yachts and so on. The built-in USB port allows awaiting guests to charge their mobile phone, PDA, MP3 player or even tablet while waiting for you by your door. Snow and rain are no problem since the USB is waterproof and features an overcurrent and short-circuit protection).

The built-in FM module allows You to listen to local radio stations. Support of Wi-Fi HotSpot technology provides the capability of sharing Internet connectivity with your guests. All the information is stored in our secure remote cloud infrastructure, so it will be left untouched in case of device failure and replacement.

You can connect multiple wireless cameras, located inside or outside of the building, thus giving you real-time streaming of what's happening at different locations in and around your residence. WiDi technology is intended to connect a remote wireless display and helps to redirect the image from cameras, show advertisements or any other desired information on any modern big-screen TV. The DLNA protocol support provides an easy way to stream real-time imaging from cameras directly to any DLNA-enable device, such as a Smart TV, TV Box and so on. Thanks to the HDMI port you can connect VITAphone^neo to any supported high definition external display for crystal clear image playback.

There are eight different models of the device available: starting from the entry-level model for the budget conscious with with a reduced feature set straight through to the full-featured «all-in-one» advanced version, including every feature and function we've outlined. VITAphone^neo is powered by a very customized version of the Android OS with a specialized interface. There is an option to run third-party application from Google Play Store, that can be installed on the device.

Drivers for the next generation 4G LTE USB wireless modem from Verizon can be installed making it possible to connect to the Internet using your new shiny Verizon modem immediately after update with no hassles.

An integrated SIM-card slot with support for GSM/GPRS EDGE/3G/4G/LTE technologies (mobile connectivity depends on device build) expands the functionality of VITAphone^neo into a full-featured cellphone (this option can be enabled or disabled by you or any device administrator at any time).

The local device administrator has the ability to enable or disable a wide range of advanced features such as phone functionality, Wi-Fi HotSpot access, Bluetooth, mobile data connectivity, Ethernet controller, DLNA protocol support, HDMI port, etc. This kind of flexibility makes it easy to configure a system that best suits your needs in any given situation. For example, VITAphone^neo can be used to share Internet connectivity with the visitors sitting in a waiting room ahead of their appointment.

How it works?

This simple scheme explains how does VITAphone^neo system works.

* Because of hardware limitations you can not use wireless Internet connection and Wi-Fi HotSpot functionality in the same time.

** Some features (e.g. HD real-time video streaming) may be unavailable, depending on the quality and speed of your mobile connection.

1. VITAphone^neo is connected to the Internet via:
   1. 1.1. 3G/4G/LTE USB data modem. You can use any AT&T, T-Mobile or Sprint modems of your choice.
   2. 1.2. Mobile data connectivity, using built-in 3G/4G data modem.
   3. 1.3. Wi-Fi connection with a wireless router, connected to the internet.
   4. 1.4. Ethernet cable connection with a wired router, connected to the internet.
2. Wireless or wired router and mobile data radio tower are connected to the Internet with any available methods: broadband, DSL or cable modem, T1 and so forth.
3. VITAphone^neo has secure, encrypted P2P (peer-to-peer) connection with our cloud server infrastructure. Device communicates directly with our servers and transfer video streams, notifications, weather information and other data. All commands, received from clients are transferred to the cloud system and then sent to the device. There is no way to connect directly to the VITAphone^neo device bypassing our secure servers environment and obtain the unauthorized control or hack the device somehow.
4. Client devices can be connected to the Internet using the same types of connection like our device uses.
5. Intercom can be controlled using wide range of the devices: recent smartphones, tablet, PCs, MACs and other smart devices running a recent popular mobile OS or featuring HTML5-compatible web-browser are supported.
   1. 5.1. A tablet PC connected to the Internet via home or office wireless access point or router.
   2. 5.2. Smartphone with a mobile data connectivity. Any of GPRS/EDGE/3G/4G/LTE connection is supported, but some features may be unavailable if connection has a poor quality and/or speed.
   3. 5.3. PC or Mac computer connected via Ethernet to the home or office wired router. Intercom can be controlled using web browser or our native client.

A few words about device moulding and mounting.

The device body is waterproof and is made of durable stainless steel. All device connectors, buttons and holes are rubberized in order to totally prevent moisture seeping into the unit. The touchscreen is made of shockproof glass. Acceptable device operating temperatures range from -22°F to 140°F. The device panel is securely attached to the entry door with a MultiLock protection system, which is almost impossible to open without a key (smart-phone or fingerprint in our case). The fastener is made from mounting loops, located on the four corners of the body. This allows anyone to attach the device to the door through mounting holes using bolts and nuts or to the wall using dowels. Mounting loops are protected with special locks that restrict access to the bolt heads.

The device consists of two different, integrated parts: the external control panel and internal coordination module. The external control panel is equipped with sensors, camera and microphone, speakers and touchscreen. All main components, including motherboard with CPU and memory, communication ports, 3G, Wi-Fi, FM modules, SIM slot is taken out to the coordination module. There is a special connector located on the back side of the control panel used to connect to the coordination module. This module is designed to be mounted inside the dwelling. The coordination module features a built-in alarm siren that can be activated on movement detection or electronic seals corruption. This behavior can be configured by device administrator.

Four mounting holes and one cable hole need to be drilled to attach the external panel to the door or wall. The rear (internal) camera is connected to coordination module and installed separately (rear camera is available depending on device build). In that way, a complete system can be installed after drilling nine holes in total: five for the external panel and four for the internal module. The cable length between main panel and coordination module can be up to twenty six feet long.

Color range.

We have chosen colors based on the ones that are used in the building and the door decoration, so they are not as rich and deep as for example, Apple used for iPhone 5c. Imagine how it would look bright yellow device on the dark brown door.

VITAphone^neo has complex antitheft system.

«But this device, mounted right near or directly on my door will surely attract the attention of a thief» - You may think. Don't worry! We have done our best to make theft almost impossible and meaningless. That's because:

1. VITAphone^neo has an ultra-durable steel body, so any attempts to pry it open with a screwdriver will just not work.
2. Mounting bolts are protected by special covers with locks, that can be opened by the key. All four mounting loops are protected by the electronic seals.
3. In case a would-be vandal still managed to cut off the device, it will be completely non-functional without the communication module anyway. There is no sense in stealing the external front panel because it just can't work without the paired communication module.
4. Our device is equipped with a camera and motion sensor. The remote server video recording service will be immediately automatically activated as soon as a would-be thief approaches the VITAphone^neo.
5. In case of unauthorized violation of the electronic seal on any of the mounting bolts, an alarm will sound and your own personalized recorded message will be played (e. g., «MOVE AWAY FROM THE DOOR AND LEAVE! THE POLICE ARE BEING CALLED!» ) There is a configurable option that can intended to send a notification to the house owner or to make an emergency call to 911.

Clearly, there is no reason in the world for a thief to even try and steal the device.

As of now we have a working «VITAphone^neo Basic» draft version prototype and a full-featured client application for Android OS. Client software for most popular platforms: iOS, BlackberryOS, Windows Phone, Symbian and a web-client will be completed, when a $250,000 goal will be reached.

The VITAphone^neo Story

VITAphone^neo was born in Brooklyn, New York. Vitaliy lived at that time in Florida and in February, 2014 he came to Brooklyn to visit his mother. I (Igor) was living not far from his mother’s house at that time. Taking this opportunity and in spite of the terrible weather Vitaliy decided to drop by and visit me.

Winter 2013-2014 was among the coldest on record and in those days there was a heavy snowfall in Brooklyn. I was home and delved into my garage (I can’t remember what I was looking for, but it doesn’t matter anyway). Vitaliy rang my doorbell for a long time, since he knew I was home since the light was on in my kitchen.

Vitaliy began to freeze after about 5 minutes of trying to get me to come to the door. He took out his smartphone that flatly refused to work because he was wearing gloves and couldn't properly work his phone. Even after he took his gloves off, he had no luck because it was too cold for his phone's touchscreen to work.

Vitaily then went to a nearby cafe and ordered tea to keep warm. After a few minutes, his smartphone warmed and started working again and Vitaliy called me. We talked and after he finished his tea he went to my house again. This time of course I was waiting for him.

During the discussion of the occurred incident Vitaliy suddenly noticed: It would be cool if your entryphone could call directly to your smartphone. That evening we sat and chatted for a while and then Vitaly went home.

The next evening Vitaliy come to me with an USB pendrive and presented a new awesome project to me - VITAphone^neo. Since then we added new features almost every hour and nothing could stop us until we ended up developing the VITAphone^neo which we are now introducing to you.

We spent six months in planning and preparing VITAphone^neo and now we are ready to start device production.

Why Crowdfunding?

During the project preparation and development stages we have repeatedly raised the question about project financing. We considered various options on how to obtain money required to complete the project and start production.

After repeated evaluations of all pros and cons of borrowing money, start-up investments from outside investors and our own savings, we realized that we needed something totally different, something new and unique, as all evaluated options had more cons than pros.
