Meet Drewl.
He is a champion of naps! He protects my house by barking at the mailman and other similar passersby. He has been my friend since July of 2011.
A close friend of mine contacted me about a dog one day. He had been abandoned by his first family, and was in need of a home. My friend found out about this and took him in, but thought that he and I would make a great pair. I agreed to take him for the weekend, just to see how things would go... That weekend has lasted 3 years.
He broke every lamp in my house on the first day, but afterwards he laid his head on my lap in his best attempt to apologize. (Who needs such flimsy lamps anyway?) I had just lost my father to cancer, and I needed a friend. Drewl has never failed to be that friend. He is always there for me when I need him.
Now I want to be there for him.
November 18th, I left my house to buy groceries. When I returned my front door was wide open, and my dog was gone. I panicked. I drove around the area screaming his name. I reported him lost to the Humane Society, and with the help of Animal Control he was found within 30 minutes of my report. He was found, but he had been hit by a car. The events of that day haven't been completely pieced together. What we know is that a very kind tow truck driver stopped and held Drewl still until help arrived. More information can be updated as I receive it.
He had no obvious broken bones, but was bleeding and having trouble breathing. We moved him to Horton Northeast, where he was then sent to the intensive care unit of the University Veterinary Teaching Hospital in Columbia. He is receiving excellent care. Neurologically speaking he is fine. He took no trauma to the head. He recognizes me and whines for me to take him home, but his chest cavity continues to fill up with air preventing effective breathing. He also has bleeding in his abdominal cavity. Drewl is my friend and worth saving. He is strong, he is so very strong, he just needs more time to heal under close care. I have given the hospital the entire contents of my checking and savings accounts, and put everything else on my credit card. However, he is in need of more care and I will not give up on him.
This is where you come in. Please, help us. Please, donate to save Drewl.
