The details of why and how my disability has created this situation are detailed in the Mission In a Nutshell section of my original fundraising blog, Get Glenn Mobile!, but suffice to say that multiple sclerosis has made me a housebound prisoner. Simply put, I can't transfer safely from my power wheelchair to my Honda Element and back, and of course as it stands now I can't take the chair with me.
The welfare/warfare State, as expected, has left me in limbo. That's why I began this fundraiser, I need to recover as much of my life as I can and restoring my freedom of mobility will do just that.
I'm not sure I've been communicating this well enough, but please understand that this vehicle modification is not a luxury or frivolity, it's absolutely essential if I'm to recover my life and get it out of that limbo, as well as removing the risk of a harmful or even fatal fall when I must go out. Right now these outings are limited to once every 2-3 months for physician visits to refill the medications I'm reliant upon...nothing else is worth that risk. For 3 years now, I haven't been living but merely existing, and watching the days go by from the (admittedly soft) prison of my home is really taking its toll on me, mentally, physically and spiritually. I'm not engaging in hyperbole or a maudlin assessment here; my life really is literally bleeding out.

Not long after starting my fundraising blog, I also was encouraged to begin writing for publication...I was happily surprised to find I have some competence at this, and being able to help spread the word about the movement for liberty in America has opened up a whole new purpose for me, as a journalist with the New Media that's fast replacing the limited and controlled dinosaur media of the past. My thanks to the Behreandts at the American Daily Herald for this opportunity! If you haven't yet seen my work, perhaps you'd care to check out my column.
I've had the privilege of appearing on the 'Language of Liberty' podcast produced by the Combat Veterans for Ron Paul, the Truth Finders Network, and most recently on 'Dangerous Conversation' with Scott Ledger on Radio IO in recent months to discuss my situation...the word's getting around!
Still, there's only so much I can do from my desk. I'm running this short term Indiegogo fundraiser since time is short: if I'm to be able to get down to Tampa to experience the events surrounding the RNC in August this goal needs to be reached quickly...it takes a minimum of six weeks to modify my Honda Element for wheelchair access, so this is an all-or-nothing campaign; if the goal isn't met, everyone gets their money back and I go back to where I am today with just over $9000 already raised.
If enough people see this project, it'll succeed. I've got a great start, I have the power chair, the Honda Element and just under $9000 already raised! Every donation counts, no matter the size. I've been happy to send thank you notes out for donations from $1 to $1000, and I'm grateful for every one I've received. I can't wait to send the rest when this is done!
There will be perks added for donors of smaller amounts shortly, but here's the big one: If the goal of $21,000 is met or exceeded, I'm going to insert in my will that the person or their designated favorite institution who gets the biggest number of donations from an awareness-raising YouTube campaign, say, or who makes the single largest individual donation will get my house in Nashville, Tennessee, the 1/2 acre it sits on, along with my firearms collection, original art work I've collected, and my hobby gear and high quality collectibles like my vintage and reproduction tinplate toys after I'm gone.
True, that's not something for the impatient, but you could secure some nice property for your kids or grandkids years down the road, a property appraised at $148,000 in 2001 as well as loads of other goodies for a contribution of $21000 or less now. I plan to live for some years yet, so keep in mind that you won't be collecting this uber-perk for some time. Think of it as a long term investment if you like. This 'everything' offer will not be repeated.
Remember, this is going to be inserted in my will, since I have no heirs or spouse. There are only a couple of conditions:
1) Should I predecease my mom, she as the executor of my will has the right to occupy the house for the remainder of her life. I will not risk her having to relocate at her age of nearly 75 years. No one gets the house and property until both of us are gone.
2) If someone gets the clever idea of 'disposing' of me or my mom to get the house early, there will be a codicil that if the winner's involved in any foul play surrounding my demise, they lose the inheritance and my home and property will go to someone of my choosing.
That's pretty much it. Indiegogo will also show a counter for funds pledged, something my blog hasn't been capable of but has been requested. My original goal of $26,000 has been increased to a full $30,000, to cover the cost of physically getting my Element to and from Freedom Motors' facility in Michigan, about $1500, with the remainder to assure I'll have travel, lodging and equipment expenses covered for the Tampa adventure, that's why I'm offering to will all I have to whoever best makes it happen in time.
I have a lot of living left to do, beginning with being able to get to Tampa, meet up with my supporters like Tatiana Moroz, Jordan Page and my brothers in the Combat Veterans for Ron Paul, and support them in their taking a stand for liberty, as well as gathering material like pics, videos and interviews to compose a solid article for the Herald.
This is your chance too to prove to the world that voluntary charitable action is far superior to the coerced government 'charity' Libertarians, freedom lovers, and anarcho capitalists have been talking about this for years...well, now's your opportunity to prove it for all the world to see!
