In 1981/82, Northrop Frye’s famous lectures on The Bible and Literature ware recorded on colour videotape. These lectures, with related seminars, have been recently recovered from the archives at the University of Toronto, have been digitized, and are in the process of being enhanced and augmented with interactive background material.

Students, scholars, and the thinking public all over the world now have the opportunity of experiencing the same "consciousness-expanding game-changer".

• The series is a unique scholarly treasure: the only classroom video ever recorded of one the 20th Century’s pre-eminent scholars and teachers. Our objective is to make this landmark series available to academic institutions and Frye-appreciating individuals around the world.

•  Seed money we are seeking in this development phase has two purposes: to help  finance the first package of four of the twenty-four projected program units; and to assist in market testing to establish that there are enough potential institutional and private subscribers to make interim financing of the full series possible. Getting the core lectures converted to digital, negotiating an option license from U of T, preparing promotional materials, and project fundraising have taken a lot of sweat equity over the past two years. We have also invested $7,000 of our own money to date in order to produce this information website:  www.fryeonthebible.com  as well as a complete Program One to serve as a prototype for the series.

• Program One is a primary perk for all those pledging a contribution to the project. It includes the lecture, seminar, interactive background notes and more. This is a 3.7 gig download which, when the series is complete, will sell to individuals for $25, the same value as the perk for a minimum pledge.

• In our preliminary promotion and market testing we have established contact with more than 300 “Friends of Frye”. These are people who knew him, have written about him, or are known to esteem his work. And of course there are others who have read his books in English or in translation in more than two dozen countries around the world.

• When I was a graduate student I studied under Northrop Frye. It was one of those once-in-a-lifetime experiences for me and I must now have heard a hundred of his former students say the same. This unique video record must not be left in pieces in archives. It belongs not just to the world of academe but to all those interested in understanding themselves and their civilization.

• I and my colleagues have a passionate interest in bringing this project to completion and we have incorporated ArchiveSync Productions to this end.
