So What exactly IS a Bad-Ass Film?
When the film pushes attitudes, actions, and appearances to extremes that break from modern convention and redefine what is possible within film as an art form, you end up with a visceral experience that comprises the very definition of Bad-Ass. A non-specific genre of film, the Bad-Ass film speaks to those film goers who want something different, something dangerous.
The Bad-Ass Film Festival (B.A.F.F.) will play a selection of films that are deemed to be "Bad-Ass" by a board of judges. The festival will run over several days and coincide with a fan expo that will showcase celebrities and products/services that embody the Bad-Ass philosophy. The Bad-Ass Film festival has its targeting systems set on becoming the destination for the world of fans who are seeking the adrenaline rush that only Bad-Ass films can provide.
We at the B.A.F.F. are fighting to do something new and distinct with regards to film and film festivals. Bad-Ass films will probably not be recognized at other festivals as they will at B.A.F.F. but that does not matter. They ain't got time to bleed. Any film has the chance of going to Sundance or SXSW and winning "BEST" of this or that, and while those films may be good...
ARE THEY BAD-ASS?
We want to celebrate those films. The films that "came to kick ass and chew bubble gum..." The raw pieces of the cinema that make you want to stand up in the theater and yell out "HELL YEAH!" Those films with characters that haunt your mind, ferocious action that breaks the bones in your eyeballs, and moments that hit you so hard that it instantly liquefies your brain. Martial arts, Action, Westerns, Horror, Science-Fiction; the art of Bad-Ass isn't limited to just one genre. It is an art form hidden within a broad scope of films, and we think the time has come to give those Bad-Asses of film their due.
What will the Bad-Ass Fest look like?
Non-stop blood, boobs, guns, gorillas, muscle cars, action, snakes, Kung-fu, sharks, tough guys, bears, tougher chicks, and way too many bullets splattered across a movie screen to the sheer delight of cinephiles everywhere! We are also planning to have guest appearances by our favorite Bad-Ass celebrities from WWE, MMA, movies, TV, and much, much more!
WHO IS TRYING TO DO THIS?
We are a group comprised of film makers, artists, and film critics. Some of the founding members include David Bostaph, Amanda Shaffer, Joseph Mellesh, and Mark Kosobucki. B.A.F.F. President David Bostaph was a contributing writer at Dread Central for several years. Through this work covering the horror genre he eventually became involved with the Eerie Horror Film Festival, for which he served as Vice President for five years. He is a published author and has concentrated acid for blood. Vice President Amanda Shaffer is a graduate of Edinboro University with degrees in both Computer Animation and Photography, and she has mastered the timing needed to properly execute the Devil's Kick at maximum destructive power. Vice President Joseph Mellesh is an actor who has been in several films, and was a director of the Eerie Horror Film Festival and Head of its judging committee. He prays to Crom every night before we strap him down in bed. B.A.F.F. Art Director "Monster" Mark Kosobucki has done effects work for several films, holds a film degree from Edinboro University, and is a graduate of the Tom Savini special make up effects program. He also has written and directed several short films, and is the writer and director of our promotional videos! He was once bitten by a king cobra...There are many other who are working to make the B.A.F.F. a reality, and now you can join us on our quest!
