Who We Are: The Law, Your Money…and YOU!!
The Law, Your Money, and You! is a nonprofit that produces a local television program run and co-hosted by Camille Barron and Roberta Saphire, two women with professional experience in helping clients with legal and financial advice. Every episode we invite an expert(s) onto our show to discuss topics we feel our audience and the public at large needs to be informed about. Since 2010, dozens of guest experts have offered insight to help viewers with a wide range of topics from scams and identity theft to college planning. Our show is presented in practical, simple terms….with a touch of humor! We also have a website that provides our viewers with additional resources and information. We occasionally host "Live at the Library" events. These are live tapings of our show that give viewers a chance to ask us questions in person and interact with our quests. Our last "Live at the Library" episode focused on getting organizing. Our guests provided viewers with tips on organizing their lives and finances. We got a lot of great feedback from the episode and hope to host another one soon.
In addition, we are active community helpers. Our organization has been instrumental in setting up a hearing aid donation box at our local library and in fundraising for a deaf child to attend camp. We have joined in with Rotary International on local projects and have been partnering with the Massachusetts Commonwealth Office of Consumer Affairs. We are also setting up networking events to facilitate gatherings with businesses and individuals who specialize in legal and financial matters. Our hope is that these networking events will result in great ideas that make life easier for the average person.
Why We Need Help: This is our third year of informative programming. We have grown from airing in only one town to airing in thirteen. We are now looking to explore other avenues like radio or podcasts. We are in desperate need of more staff. Our volunteers have been wonderful but the more we expand, the larger their time commitments and the worse we feel about not being able to pay them. We are also looking to hire someone to manage our website full-time. We have applied for our 501(c)3 status with the IRS and are awaiting approval. We are looking for money to hold us until we are eligible for 501(c)3 grants.
Our expansion costs are as follows:
Gas money for driver to deliver our DVDs to 12 towns - $100 a month
Money for administrative support - $200 a month
Money for office supplies (mailings, pamphlets, printing, advertising, and all other normal business operating materials) - $650 a month
Website maintenance, including bloggers and the constant addition of new material- $250 a month
Networking Events – $1,250
Maintenance of a corporation, including common filing fees and staff pay
How You Can Help: We are asking the Indiegogo community to help us meet some of these costs. We want to continue educating the public about important legal and financial issues. Please consider donating to our funding goal of $8,900. Your donations will go towards producing our show and allow us to expand our program into other towns. Donations will also allow us to play a bigger role in our community and reach more people All contributors will be publically thanked on our website (unless they opt not to). We are also offering four different perks: pens inscribed with the name of the show, aluminum water bottles, travel mugs, and a booklet titled "Legal Guide for Homeowners" by Attorney Roberta Saphire.
Other ways to help: If you cannot offer monetary assistance, we are always looking for guest bloggers to blog about their knowledge and expertise on our website.
