The Inspiration Behind Pixie Splitz....
Almost every child seems to go through a difficult phase of learning to put shoes on the correct feet. I have worked at a child development center for the past 6 years, and have observed this dilemma among young children. Children like to be independent, therefore this causes frustration. This can be time consuming for parents and caretakers of little independents! :) I began to observe closer when the children would choose a shoe, it was simply a guessing game! There is no indication from a child's viewpoint to have the cognitive ability for order when putting on shoes! Shoes are not kid friendly!

Putting shoes on with the Split Image Indication Technique
It does not really matter how much time, money, and effort is spent on the design and structure of a shoe if it never makes it to the correct foot! Children love being independent! Shoes should be fun and exciting! This is why I have created Pixie Splitz! These are insole inserts for children that have split images on them to indicate the order for children! An effective, yet simple, two piece puzzle!!
Pixie Splitz Designs
The inserts are being launched on Indiegogo in six colorful and exciting images! Each insert will be printed on 3mm white neoprene. This is a thin material used for wetsuits, koozies, laptop sleeves,etc...I selected neoprene because it can be water resistant and withstand fluctuated temperature levels. It is thin enough to fit in the bottom of a child's shoe, yet a smooth surface for comfort. Each footprint will be 6" long and 3" wide, with a half inch of white neoprene on each side, resulting in approximately a 7"x7" dimension. The inserts will be easy to use and beneficial! (recommended for children ages 1-6 yrs old)
Directions...
1. Place insert on a hard surface
2. Have child stand on footprints ( or use existing shoes insoles)
3. Use a pen or marker to trace around each foot (or insoles) for desired measurements
4. Have child step off inserts. Then trim inserts to size
5. Place inserts in shoes!
Successful Split Imaging Zebra!
It's time to stop the confusion! Help me on my journey to revolutionize the way children are being introduced to shoes! We can make a difference, but I need your help! :) The initial order is 5,000 inserts, that's several children, and I'm excited to reach out to others with Pixie Splitz! So PLEASE help me get started!
Risks and challenges
I am in the process of setting up an online store offering Pixie Splitz, but you have the opportunity of being the first in helping me revolutionize the way we can market children's shoes! The industry is overlooking how an insole can be benificial to children. Imaging on most children's shoes currently have mirrored imaging. This is cute, but what advantage does it create for children? My goal is to work with leading shoe manufacturers and start a split image indication printing system. This way split images can be directly printed in the insoles of children's shoes. It is a new and exciting way to market children's shoes, yet beneficial to the ones wearing them--CHILDREN!! :)
