We have initially asked for 1,500 dollars however we are really aiming for over 2,500 dollars so that we will be able to rent out some specialist camera rigs as well as hiring a professional special makeup effects artist for a week of shooting.

For the past 2 years at Simple Pictures we have been creating videos which we feel are both bold and contemporary. This has lead us to embark on our biggest challenge yet; a short Neon Noir set in the underground world of Seoul. A passion project bringing together our love of Korean cinema, european electronic music and our desire to make something fresh. 

Simple Pictures was founded by my brother Simon and I with a desire to make projects such as this. From very humble beginnings we have slowly managed to further our careers in the film industry through a variety of music video projects and other film related avenues, such as editing Theatrical Trailers for the UK releases of Japanese Films. 

After graduating from University over a year ago I decided to move to Korea, fueled by my desire to learn the language and my love of Korean cinema. Having spent most of this year studying Korean and networking within the Korean film industry, I feel it is now time to make a short film here. 

My brother came over from London to Korea a few weeks ago and ever since - as Co-Directors - we have been working non-stop at making this project happen. This has entailed translating our script, scouting for locations, make-up & lighting tests, putting a cast and crew together of equally motivated individuals etc. Everything to make sure that this film will live up to the extremely high expectations we have for it. 

We are very excited to have a completely Korean cast and crew, in the hope that our sensibilities as western directors coupled with our cast and crew of Korean technicians and actors, will make this project a true collaboration of eastern and western film making styles.

The Cast

Our cast will comprise of up and coming acting talent from Korea. At Simple Pictures we have been looking to strengthen our international prospects. This has lead us to colloborate with the Korean Talent Agency 'Crosswalk.' Based in Seoul this newly founded agency has provided our project with actors at no cost under the condition that this film is a co-proudction between both 'Simple Pictures' and 'Crosswalk.'

Our lead actor Min Jung Kim, who you can see in the featured stills and test footage video, graudated from the most prestigous University for Acting in Korea, and is a great talent whom we look forward to working with. Of course we are equally as excited at working with the rest of our more than capable cast who will bring our screenplay vividly to life. 

The Project

Our project, loosely based on Ryu Murukami's 'Coin Locker Babies', follows our protagonist Sam Il as he navigates Seoul's underworld. Abondoned in a coin locker from birth by his Mother, Sam Il becomes a street fighter of some success. However this success comes at a price and he is soon left questioning the cycle of violence which prevails his existence.

The videos attached to this page will not only show you our commitment to this project but also give you a clear idea of what we want to achieve with the finished product.

The first video is some rehearsal and test footage we shot with our actor whilst scouting locations, edited together and graded to give you a clearer look at the style of the film we want to make.

The second video is known in the industry as a pitch reel (an edit of footage from other films which represents the desired tone of our film).

Why We Need Your Help

Whilst we will be funding a large amount of this project ourselves and have already begun doing so. As is always the case with film-making our projected costs for this film have risen as we move towards prodcution. So we thought if we want this project to really go full steam ahead and live up to our ambitions, why not give others the chance to not only help us but also become part of this exciting production. 

With your help and contributions we want to raise the necessary funds, which we hope will make this project of the caliber it needs to be. Prime lenses, Sound Recording Equipment, Camera Rigs etc. are all required for this film to have the visual look and style we are aiming to achieve. Crew members such as special make up effects artists and sound recordists will require a small amount of pay, if these departments are to match our expectations for this project.

However the core members of this project such as the cast, directors, editor and cinematographers will be working flat out for no money. Simply being motivated by the belief in the potency of this project. With your help we can make something special. So please help us if you can.
