Short Summary

Set in Darndale, Coolock - "Cardboard Gangsters" tells the story of a rising small time gang in Dublin's drug capital.

In the video

Writer/director and star of "Cardboard Gangsters", John Connors, invites us into an exploration behind the story of his feature film. Also interviewed is producer Paul Brady, co-star Stephen Clinch, singer/songwriter Damien Dempsey, composer/rapper and actor Paulie Alright (aka Lethal Dialect) and executive producer Mark O'Connor of Stalker Films.

Stalker Films

Stalker Films has a solid history of making socially significant films which tackle and highlight import topics in Ireland. One of its most recent productions was 'King of the Travellers' starring John Connors in the leading role.

Trailer: https://vimeo.com/49156835.

Other movies produced by Stalker Films include: "Between the Canals", "Out of Here" and "Stalker": which placed Runner Up Best New Irish Film at the Galway Film Fleadh 2012. "Stalker" was co-written by John Connors, who also played the lead role in the film. His work was described by Irish Times critic, Donald Clarke, as being "first rate".

Social relevance

This film is a deeply personal movie for John Connors who has grown up in Darndale from a young age. Darndale is an area in Dublin that is ravaged by drugs and crime.

We are going to tell a very personal story in a realistic and raw way that highlights the issues faced by people (and very often children) living in areas such as Darndale.

High hopes

Our producers have years of experience in making movies and taking them around the world to film festivals and markets. It is our intention to take "Cardboard Gangsters" to leading film festivals, then try and sell the movie to a distributor in Ireland and overseas. This is no easy feat, but we are confident that the story will have international appeal.

You can now be a part of an artistic endeavour which will bring attention to tough social issues that people face every single day in Darndale and places like that all over Ireland.

What We Need & What You Get

We are looking to raise €25,000 on Indiegogo.

Your money will be part of the overall budget. Costs include hiring film equipment, paying working industry professionals (both cast and crew), post production services and marketing costs which include postage to all the festivals.

The more you give the greater the rewards you will receive. They range from credits in the film, being an extra, tickets to a screening with cast and crew, signed posters, scripts and downloads of the film and its soundtrack.

The Impact

Your contribution to this film is immense no matter how big or small. It makes a world of difference. It's our goal to deliver a film that we can all be proud of.

You also give emerging creative talent in Ireland a chance to develop their skill and craft and hopefully provide a platform to launch their careers.

It is our ambition to follow in the footsteps of such great and succesful films as:

Le Haine, Mean Streets, Menace to Society, Paid in Full. All of which are personal stories exploring social issues in different areas throughout the world.
