Short Summary
Science Fiction is our conversation with the future; politics are our conversation with each other.
Strange Bedfellows -- as in 'politics makes strange bedfellows' -- will seek short fiction from the best writers in the field: writers who are passionate about the importance of ideology and political action as a source of solutions as well as problems.
As a long-time political analyst and advisor and an award winning SF writer and editor, Hayden Trenholm is perfectly placed to edit this 80,000-word anthology.
This anthology will appear regardless but, to attract the best, we need to raise our pay rates from semi-pro to pro.
What We Need & What You Get
Bundoran Press is a small press with big ambitions. Our long-term vision is to grow into a mid-sized press paying professional rates while maintaining our singular focus and publishing flexibility.
Strange Bedfellow will be published in 2014. The question is how much we can pay our writers. Our goal of $2800 will let us increase our rates from 1.5 cents a word to 5 cents a word. Additional funds will be used first, to increase the length of the book to a maximum of 90,000 words, and, second, further increase the rate of pay to the writers.
This is a fixed campaign -- if we can't increase our rates to pro levels, we'll carry on at semi-pro rates.
In exchange for your contributions we offer a number of benefits -- acknowledgement, books, and special considerations.
The Impact
Although there are a number of great novels with strong political themes (think of David Brin, Allan Steele, Robert J. Sawyer and Dani and Eytan Kollin), there have been almost no collections of politically themed science fiction. This anthology fills that gap.
