HELP US HELP KIDS
KOCI-LPFM is a non-profit community radio station in Orange County, California. We are not a commercial station therefore we derive all of our funds from underwriting sponsors and listener donations. Our staff are all volunteers.
Our primary charitable program is called “Life Changes For Kids,” whose goal is to promote and support activities and programs that can have a lasting impact on the kids and youth of our local communities. To date, our largest fundraising effort for Life Changes was our production and live coverage of a local concert event at Vanguard University that helped raise funds for Julian Dunn, a young boy with cancer. We helped raise $28,000 that went directly to the Dunn family for medical bills.
We have been involved in Toys For Tots, providing Christmas presents to disadvantaged kids who write letters to Santa, pumpkin patch visits for area children, Earth Day events and so much more.
KOCI also is the only community radio station that provides other area non-profits with a platform to promote their events that results in larger turn-outs and more money raised for those charities. These include: The Costa Mesa Community Foundation, Costa Mesa United, the Costa Mesa/Newport Harbor Lions Club, Youth Employment Services of the Harbor Area (YES), The Sons of the American Legion, OC Parks and the Newport Bay Conservancy, Area Chambers of Commerce, our area local governments, Orange Coast College, the Orange County Fair and Event Center, the Environmental Nature Center (ENC), the Newport Aquatic Center (NAC), The Center for Spiritual Living, Susan G. Komen, The American Red Cross, Habitat For Humanity, Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation, Laura's House, The American Legion, American Cancer Society, Surfrider Foundation, Orangewood, Boy Scouts of America and many others.
So, helping us helps them. Your contribution will help us expand and grow our charitable efforts in support of these local community organizations and programs. We are currently constrained by equipment limitations, and securing necessary upgrades poses a major challenge. This “Life Changes For Kids” Campaign will assist us in securing the equipment needed to provide remote coverage at community events throughout the year that will include “live” broadcasting. This will enhance our ability to both promote and raise funds for “Life Changes for Kids” and continue our efforts in support of the non-profit and service organizations in our local communities.
The remote broadcasting package in this campaign is a complete set-up and will allow us to begin live, remote broadcasting immediately. KOCI has a wonderful listening demographic and we definately make a difference!
