Short Summary
Hello, I'm Suresh, from India. I'm lover of Indian traditional arts and culture. I was associated with couple of nonprofit organisations and worked closely in tribal and rural areas of Andhrapradesh, India.
When I was 16, I went to a riverside village in the month of November with some of my cousins for picnic. A drunken, old villager passed by us singing a melody and dancing to it. We all gazed at him. The song was a folk melody teasing a beautiful young girl. We realized his attention on our girls. But we didn’t know why we were not angry or upset. More over we enjoyed the song may be because of the melody of the song or the novelty of the lyric yet naughty. After a while I realised thats as the virtue of the folk music. They are simple, straight and attractive. We are from the nearby village but we never listened this type of song. If that generation disappear these songs also vanish.
From more than one decade I’ve been noticing this decline in various art formats and cultural knowledge of these areas due to various reasons. These art formats like music, dance, stories, and epics are very rich in knowledge and culture. Very pure and innocent thoughts and beliefs are reflected in these art formats.
Documentation of these arts, artists information and organising performances will revive the culture of enjoying traditional arts. And this enables propagation of various human values, knowledge imbibed in them
My Plan is
I've collected primary information on 60 art formats of Andhrapradesh region. My initial plan is to meet various artists belonging to these arts, carry a baseline survey to have clear understanding of historical, socio economical and cultural reasons for the decline of these arts.
Further, events to encourage the artists and communities to carry forward the arts and culture to next generations will be orgnaised.
Based on the survey analysis various projects will be developed to help revival and preservation of these beautiful art formats.
Fund raised here will be utilised for travel to various tribal areas, record art formats, interviews, bring out analysis and publish report, start a website with information about these art formats and maintain artist database.
The whole project is designed in to different goals like 1. Interviews, 2.Recording of performances. 3. Developing and publishing of survey Report, 4. Website development and promotion.
So with the fully raised fund I aim to complete the project in three to four months of period. If the fund raised doest meet the target also some of the goals can be achieved
The Impact
I believe arts and culture that bring people together and keep the communities united. Mainly the earlier formats of arts are very simple, straight and attractive. They teach about history, mankind, and culture and provide distinct knowledge including about nature and god.
Through this project we not only revive, protect the traditional art formats but also keep the communities united and spread humankind, love among the people.
