Why 50 Miles
I have been a runner and artist for most of my life; now I am enlisting one activity in symbolic support of the other.
Since 2012, under the auspices of Bruun Studios, I have held art-based events to support such organizations as Roberta's House of Grief and Loss, Goal Diggers: The Sankofa Project, and Health Care for the Homeless.
I have offered the events, my art, and my studio on a volunteer basis.
Though this work is proven in its power and impact, offering this service as a volunteer is proving economically unsustainable.
I have the vision in 2014 of dedicating significant time
to civic- and social-minded art projects. I want my studio to be a resource for Baltimore... I see Bruun Studios as an ongoing venue for art events serving social justice
organizations and causes. I
also am developing large-scale projects such as Autumn Leaves, and an undertaking addressing issues of addiction
and recovery... a project I hope to see become a reality by 2015.
Carrying out this work is neither a sprint nor even a
marathon, but more like an ultra-marathon. It takes endurance... and resources.
I believe I have the endurance, but I am asking you for help with resources.
The 50 mile run in support
of Bruun Studios symbolizes three things: my commitment to using art to inform, inspire, and illuminate; a
pledge to honor your belief, participation, and support; and a
promise on my part to persevere to make a
difference through art.
With your backing, 2014 can be a banner year for Bruun
Studios. You may participate with a financial contribution ranging from $25 and up, but you may also, if you're not getting Bruun Studios emails yet, subscribe to our newsletter, or if you like the looks of my paintings and drawings but not the one's specifically offered as perks, then contact me.
About the Perks:
1) 5-Notecard Set. These are 4.25"x6" illustrated with a color image on the front and a blank interior. The sets feature five works by me shown in the video below along with notable quotations about identity:
2) Art Chance: The video below highlights the six works of art (which look much, much better in real life!) to be given away as part of the Art Chance Dinner on January 9, 2014.
