I believe sonic art is something of immense power...I respect it... I revere it and step up to it in humble acknowledgement of it's grace.
THE PROJECT
I've been developing this audio science, evolving it's technology into innovative areas... With it, I can play bass, melody, rhythm and orchestrations live with just two hands. It allows a mind boggling world of innovative, interactive sound design and 3D recording science. It will sound so ultimately unique and distinct. It can only be proven true when the instrument is completed.
I've been focused like a laser towards my dream to uncover an unknown new sound pallet that allows us to feel like we are in the future... beyond all the chaos! ... It's a beautiful place to be! I found out early in life that music can be anything we wish... It doesn't have to be as it appears in pop culture...that’s just industry effect. With that in mind, I've designed a custom world of 3D sound and music... from the instrument to the 3D recording process to composition....
WHERE, WHAT, WHY...
I'm a musician turned recording engineer. I worked at one of the finest equipped studios in the world having opportunities to spend long hours doing intricate sonic experiments when the studio was unbooked. I was in search of the lost chord... and after many wild experiments, I found it!
After signing to a record deal with Larry Fast of Peter Gabriel's band and while recording my debut release, Pictures of Earth & Space, I was researching a series of awesome discoveries I made involving how strings resonate with each other in controllable ways. On guitars, it's hardly noticeable but experimenting led me to lay out multiple groups of strings all on one play surface, results were remarkable!... both musically and sonically... but control technology at the time still needed serious advancements. I needed software control over a wide range of factors to harness the power of the strings. The control elements were missing but the unique layout of strings had me totally entranced... The interactive resonance just beckoned to be explored! ... and I did ...and evolved a sophisticated way for strings to speak with each other via precision software control...
HIRE THE TEAM...
I've found exceptionally talented software artists, daring guitar builders and experimental musicians wanting to push technical possibilities beyond where they stand.
I ask help to cover building materials and to hire the talented core group of 3 professional artisans that will form the StringStation construction team.
First... is a forward thinking guitar builder/luthier to collaborate with on the instrument’s overall ergonomics, layout and acquisition of selected materials. Together we will finalize all construction matters and do the full assembly. I've found several here that do fantastic work.
Second... is a creative 3D CAD professional, generating computer modeling of all the measurements and dimensions of the main chassis, pieces and layout... computer designing and tailoring exact pieces for production.
Third... is a wizard-like digital audio software engineer/geek to detail all signal flow and work out the many custom software/hardware requirements of the instrument. ...thank goodness Seattle is the land of software wizards! I've met several I'd like to engage on this.
- Additional subcontracted talents will also be hired for specific work such as custom metal work, specific electronic assemblies and the like.

A BEAUTIFUL NEW INSTRUMENT... AND NEW ALBUM...
The album is really going to be once-in-a-lifetime special. I've been planning its arrival and working its 3D concepts up to heights that I believe are going to prove stunning! I want to capture music as I develop sounds. I want the joy of discovery to infuse the recordings feeding more inspiration back out. It's part of the energy I want to communicate. My production costs are lower than most band recording situations as the finished instrument is designed with an 'on board' recording studio fully realized in surround... completely tweaked and ready to record. I only need an accurate set of audio monitors in a quiet space.
THE UNEXPLAINABLE ...
How can you explain audio technology no one has ever heard? It is the constant conundrum of this evolving instrument; it can't be heard until built!
Granted, this project is an unusual one ... I've never heard of anyone needing to build a new instrument from the ground up to achieve an artistic vision either. But here I am, a progressive artist ready to do something astonishing and beautiful with a lifetime of prep and forethought behind it. It's all married together here in one grand expedition to bring the unknown into view and onto your doorstep. I want to make a timeless album that will echo for centuries. The new music and sonics will certainly say 'Thank You' better than I ever can!
