Are You Ready to Get Naked?
Naked Theatre Company was founded by Rachael Murray, Jared Murray, and Cory Cunningham last year near Washington, DC. We aim to use the best available technology to bridge the gap between process and performance. We want our audiences to have an immersive experience with our shows from beginning to end, allowing you to see the process in a very raw and "naked" way.
Our goal is to capture the process of creating a show on film to share with our audience online and before the show. During rehearsals, meetings, and other events, we'll be taping and editing the footage to share with anyone interested! We even hope to get feedback from viewers as the show is still being built! Art isn't just about the final product - it's also about the journey, and we want to invite you to join us in that journey and find out why it's so special and addicting to those involved!
The Show
![]()
"Bitch: A Play About Antigone" by Andy Boyd is our second production and first attempt at a new work! We've already been accepted to D.C.'s Capital Fringe Festival this July, and the only thing left to do is to raise the funds! This play is a reinterpretation of the Antigone story, best known from Sophocles’ play called, you guessed it, Antigone. Julia Sears will be directing the show, and we'll be following the challenges and rewards of working directly with a new playwright to produce a new show!
The Money
![]()
Naked Theatre Company was founded by three starving actors, and so we're looking for your support to help us get theatre out to new audiences while enriching the experience for long-time theatre-goers! We've divided our budget out so that you can see exactly where the money is going.
Budget:
-
Actors (7) $700
- Director $100
- Film Person $100
- Stage Manager $100
- Lighting Designer $100
- Sound Designer $100
- Costume Designer $100
- Playwright: $100
- Advertising (postcards/posters) $100
- Set $100
- Props $100
- Costumes $150
- Lighting/Sound $85
- Script copies/paper $150
- Rehearsal Space $800
- Indiegogo Fees $115
- GOAL: $3000
If we reach this goal, it allows us to produce our show without going into debt!
The Dream
Our first show, R.U.R., was called "an impressive debut" by The Washington Paper and we'd like to keep that momentum going for our second show. We hope it will be the beginning of a new way of experiencing and taking part in theatre. We'd like to start having our own season, start building a community of contributors and patrons, and start discussions about the boundaries that currently exist in this art form and how to bend or break them. It's ambitious, yes, but we think it's an important step towards the survival and revitalization of American theatre.
Last year we live-streamed the whole process. This year we're taking a more refined approach. We feel by editing the content, we'll make it more accessible and easier to digest. Ultimately we hope to meet somewhere in the middle, providing a way to have interaction and instant-feedback during the rehearsal process as well as providing edited videos for those who need to play catch up! We hope to showcase how actors and the director interact in a rehearsal. We also hope to show what goes into designing a show. You can see the struggles along the way, the sacrifices that must be made, and the small victories that add up to the final product. Then you can come see the show live and see how it all turns out. You can congratulate your favorite actor on coming so far since the first day. Or you could do it all in reverse - come see the show and then take a look back at the rehearsals and meetings that made the show what it has become.
It's new. It's scary. It's naked.
Other Ways You Can Help
Some people can't even afford to donate $10 and, believe us, we understand. If you'd like to help in some way, though, anything is appreciated. Here are ways you could help:
- We're looking for spaces where we can rehearse in June. Have a space or a lead on a space?
- Do you have a website or business where we could advertise for free?
- Check out our website to see the latest videos!
- Want to host a party for the cast/crew? We haven't budgeted for fun things, but it's just as important!
