I'm Chris and along with my brother Ed we have come up with a cool alternative to the average iphone speaker dock.

The problem with modern speaker docks is that they add to our already plastic saturated environment. All of the current speaker docks are going to end up in a landfill one day when Apple decides to change the USB port of it's phone.

The worst thing about most of the speaker docks available is that they are not portable, most require constant power from your wall outlet.

The Eco-Blaster is a portable speaker made out of 100% recycled cardboard. The speakers can be used with your iPhone, iPod, or any device with a 3.5 mm headphone jack.

The Design

I got home that day and shared the idea with my brother, he loved it. We started throwing ideas at each other. We saw that in order to have a unique product it was critical for us to focus on these three characteristics...

1.) Portability

The plan was to have speakers that you could take anywhere. The Eco-Blaster is light weight and doesn't have any messy wires (just the short headphone jack). Our design is compact and stylish, unlike what's out there right now, try pulling out a huge speaker dock from your bag in front of your friends and not getting looked at funny. When you pull out the Eco-Blaster people will smile and compliment you on your good taste :-)

2.) Eco-Friendliness

Most iPhone/iPod speaker docks feel like they were designed by Darth Vader's stylist, almost all docks are made of tough metal grills and hard black plastic. We decided to use 100% recycled cardboard for our speakers.

3.) Affordability

Most speaker docks on the market start at $60 and go up to over $120. By making the speakers out of recycled cardboard we have been able to cut down costs significantly without sacrificing sound quality. We plan to retail our speakers for $40. Not only is it easy on the environment, but it's easy on your pocket too.

What we plan to do with the money...

With your help we will be able to take this project beyond the prototype phase. We will work more with our manufacturer to create the final version which will have a more solid cardboard construction, plus we will also need to develop and produce retail packaging.

We need the funding for the first manufacturing run of the Eco-Blaster and to fulfill the rewards for our supporters. Our kickstarter supporters will receive the final version of the Eco-blaster.

Funding will also be used to hire a web designer and a programmer to develop a website for the Eco-Blaster.
