My daughter, Tabitha, loves playing mobile games. But, I worry about what Tabitha will absorb as she gets older. So, together with my parents, Ray and MarySue, I’m creating a kid-friendly tablet game called A Better World for Kids that brings out the best in our kids, shapes them into positive people, and encourages them to make the world a better place.

A Better World for Kids is based on the science of Positive Psychology that shows when good deeds are done, happiness levels and a sense of well-being increase. Positive thinking, being thankful, and sharing love are all part of the scientifically-recommended habits for a happy and healthy outlook.
Kids will create avatars in the game that live in the virtual community, the BetterWorldians Neighborhood, interact with other kids, and get jobs based on gameplay kids already know and love such as Cooking, Building, and Puzzles. And A Better World for Kids will include actions like Learning to Cook Healthy Food, Sorting and Recycling using Match 3, and Solving Word Games with Positive Themes.
Kids will earn Do-Good Gold for Positive Actions and Positive Attitude and can use it to decorate their own home and visit friends, dress up in fun clothes and costumes, and even have their own pets to care for and play with! And in A Better World for Kids, the more good deeds they do, the faster and further they'll progress!
A Better World for Kids breaks the boundary between the real world and virtual world – kids are encouraged to do good in the game AND in the real world. This is not just about sitting and playing on a tablet, but about going out in the world and doing good. Parents can even put in real world household chores for kids to do which earns kids Do-Good Gold in the game.
A Better World for Kids will be compliant with all child privacy laws and regulations. We are working with FTC COPPA certified safe harbor vendor, Privo, to ensure that we follow all best practices in making sure A Better World for Kids is safe. We also will use Sift's state-of-the-art, best-in-class monitoring techniques to ensure that any interactions between kids are safe and friendly.
As part of their commitment to giving back, Raymond and MarySue Hansell, A Better World's CEO and COO, have launched the MeeMee and Peeps Match.
For every contribution made to A Better World for Kids Indiegogo Campaign, Ray and MarySue will donate a 10% match of the amount pledged to two children’s charities, regardless of whether the campaign meets its goal and is fully funded, up to $10,000.
Half of the donations will go to Convoy of Hope, a not-for-profit organization whose goal is to bring help and hope to those who are impoverished, hungry and hurting. Our match will support their feedONE initiative that feeds children in Tanzania, South Africa, Philippines, El Salvador, the Dominican Republic, and other countries. Other donations will go to Operation Warm, a nonprofit that brings happiness and warmth to children in need by providing them with brand new winter coats. To date, Operation Warm has given new winter coats to over 1.4 million children throughout America. Learn more at OperationWarm.org.
Additionally, A Better World for Kids promises to pledge 10 percent of its post-campaign net profits to charities that help children. We will support a new charity every two months to help make the real world a better place for kids.
A Better World for Kids is asking for $200,000 to make the concept a reality, which might sound like A LOT of money for a kids game that fits inside the 9 or so inches of a tablet screen. But actually what we are asking for is slim compared to many gaming budgets which can run as high as millions of dollars. The necessary investment in specialized child expertise, artists, programmers, and designers, not to mention technical infrastructure and marketing, is why these budgets can soar so high.
We are able to make A Better World for Kids happen for $200,000 not only because we have experience making games, but also because this money will only be used to pay all the outside costs associated with this game - design consultants, childhood experts, additional art and programing talent, Day 1 tech infrastructure, and very basic marketing. Our internal team will be supported by our existing business, but will of course still be involved at a very deep level with A Better World for Kids.

Q: What was the inspiration behind A Better World for Kids?
A: The inspiration came from the positive response of our A Better World online game on Facebook for teens and adults. Over 25 million good deeds have been done in our A Better World game on Facebook by over 2.7 million people. The success of A Better World on Facebook led us to believe that people innately like helping others and doing good. We wanted to create a game that not only inspired this in children, but rewarded it.
Q: How will A Better World for Kids be different from teen and adult version of A Better World on Facebook?
A: A Better World for Kids is envisioned as a completely redesigned mobile game, designed to instill a passion in children for doing good and thinking positively while still having fun. A Better World for Kids teaches children that they can make a difference in the world and that their actions have an impact. It also encourages children to step away from technology and screens for a little bit each day and truly experience life.
Q: Why Indiegogo?
A: We believe that people want a positive vision for a better world, and Indiegogo is the perfect place to let people “put their money where their heart is” and fund projects that can truly make a difference. A: .Virtual world games are among the most difficult to design, build, and manage, but A Better World is a company that has been in the gaming space for four years. And our same core team has been together for over ten years making web applications as ToonUps, a company that offers uplifting software in the business-to-business world. From a technical point of view, A Better World for Kids is very much within our wheelhouse.
Q: How can you ensure that A Better World for Kids will be both fun and educational?
A: Well, from the fun perspective, we've been doing user testing and other research with kids gaming experts at Dubit Limited to make sure we have a product that children will enjoy and parents approve. We're also working with KZero Worldswide who are experts in virtual worlds and who have particular expertise in game design and metrics management. In short, our team is awesome ☺
