First and foremost, thanks for checking out our Indiegogo page. A Christmas Star is an independent horror short with tongue-in-cheek nods to the holiday movie genre, to be filmed in the heart of the TV movie industry, British Columbia.

In true TV movie fashion, AUBREY, the spoiled daughter of a successful business owner, visits the small-town of Cherry Oaks to learn about the values and spirit of Christmas. There she runs into GERALD, a charming guy who turns their meet-cute into a holiday themed horror.  

*This project is an homage to the many Christmas movies that are released annually, and a comedic/frightening take of the more likely extremes that can occur from living in an altered reality of Christmas movies. In other words, is it reeeeeallllly a good idea to trust a strange holiday-obsessed man in a small town?*

Meet the Crew:

Director Rami Kahlon (Odd Girl, ALTER), Editor Gloria Mercer (Hekademia, CBC Gem), Sound Designer Justin Aucoin (She Who Must Burn, PLEX), and Sound Recordist Alex Shamku (Yasmina, Storyhive), and Script Editors Muhammad Iqmal and Eleanor Jane (Odd Girl, Samansa Jpn). With production team Tyler Dumoulin and (Henry V, Pacific Theatre), Amit Dhuga (Prisoner, Boundless Lion Productions).

"A Christmas Star" is the follow up to "Odd Girl", an award-winning horror short with international success on the festival circuit. We love horror, and we love doing it well. Feel free to watch "Odd Girl" below or on Youtube via ALTER.

The purpose of this campaign is to raise  $10,000 for pre-production.

This film is being made independently, meaning it is fully self-funded, so we can’t stress enough that all contributions matter!

55% - will go towards pre-production costs of the film. This includes script development, paying our producers for early development, and putting aside money for location and design costs/creative supplies (wardrobe, special effects makeup, essential props) to get the Christmas look.

30% - set aside money for both catering and crafty on set. To make sure that our cast and crew don't have pizza every day, a good chunk of our initial goal will go towards making sure they are fed a healthy and energizing lunch and dinner.

10% - will go towards saving for legal and clearances. To guarantee that our cast, crew, and locations are protected, we will invest in camera, worker, and location insurances. In addition, we have a few exterior shots so we need to make sure that our permits are all paid up so we don't end up on the city of Vancouver's naughty list!

5% - of funds will be held for manufacturing costs. This includes any production costs for perks, international shipping fees, and a thank you to our designers for the Christmas cards.

Our current budget goal only includes costs to go into pre-production, so exceeding it means more freedom to be more creative and have a quicker timeline with the film! Here are our stretch goals:

$20,000 – PRODUCTION COSTS:  After setting aside funds for locations, insurance, and food, this will allow us to pay for the rental trucks and offer honorariums to our creative team.

$35,000 – FULL WAGES: Baby it's cold outside and we want to pay you well! We want to take good good care of all of our team members. Every single dollar from this stretch goal will go towards paying a livable wage to our cast and crew.

$50,000 – POST-PRODUCTION: This would make our budget excel sheet very very happy. With the full amount, we could hire more staff to assist our cast and crew for a more efficient shoot, and go quickly into post-production right after filming

Our campaign offers perks for you to get involved via producer credits, seeing your name on screen as a thank you, or be an extra if you’re in the area! Other perks include props and gifts with direct nods to the film, and personal links to be among the first to view the film once it’s finished. We also have heavily discounted fitness perks, such as virtual Pilates sessions with the director and a one-month unlimited membership with Lions MMA! There is something for everyone!
