I first saw the power of herbal medicine during my trip to Ghana two years ago.
Me (Left), Henry (Middle), and Nick (Right), on our last day at the herbal research center and clinic in Ghana
Two months in, my travel companion Nick began to develop boils on his neck. Desperate for relief he went and saw a doctor who prescribed antibiotic after antibiotic to fight the infection, but the boils didn't go away. Seeing the issue, our co-worker recommended an herbal treatment: drinking the extracts of two locally grown herbs Enterica and Nibima. Doing what antibiotics couldn't in weeks, within two days he was cured.
PROMISE OF HERBAL MEDICINE:
Clearly something incredible was happening at this clinic in Ghana. Even more amazing, Nick’s story was not unique; For decades, hundreds of Ghanaians had been using herbal remedies to cure serious illnesses like malaria and typhoid. The problem is that while effective, these remedies have been dramatically understudied and misunderstood.

THE CURRENT PROJECT:
Now two years later, I have been awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to work with the CSRPM - the leading herbal research clinic in all of Ghana - to design and implement the hospital’s first electronic medical record system and create original statistical software to analyze patient data. This analysis software applied to the data aggregated from our system will allow local doctors and myself to better understand if and how these herbal remedies are working.
The impact on the Ghanaian health system could be revolutionary. The clinic sees 100 patients everyday, and thus what we learn from our work could reach over 30,000 people per year.
We are ready to go.
But I need your help. I need to purchase computers & hardware for the hospital as follows: Fundraising Breakdown - Computers (4,000), Tariffs (500), Network Cables and Switches (200), Central Network Server (500), Printers (400)
My personal travel and living expenses will be covered by the U.S. Fulbright exchange program. All pledges will go directly to computing resources that benefit the clinic the CSRPM in Ghana.

THANK YOU! I look forward to sharing the results of the project with you!
