What is ABC's of Death Part 2?
"THE ABCs OF DEATH became one of the most talked about genre films of 2012/13. Hugely ambitious and immensely challenging, it was unlike anything fans had ever seen. Many loved it and a hell of a lot detested it - but the film was such a creative and financial success that Timpson Films, Drafthouse Films and Magnolia Pictures set forth on the creation of a sequel. The producers signed up 25 of the most exciting and innovative genre directors from around the globe... but there are 26 letters in the English alphabet - and once again, we find ourselves searching far and wide to find… THE 26TH DIRECTOR!
Last year, we scoured every corner of the planet for the next great genre director to complete our all-star roster. UK"s Lee Hardcastle wowed critics and audiences alike with his claymation tribute to commode chaos, and his "T is for Toilet" short was ultimately included in the final film - shown in theaters, festivals and homes around the world."
Who Are We?
My name is Ama Lea. I'm a photographer and film maker. You may best know my work from The Bloody Best Project, covers of Fangoria or short films such as Red Red. This short will be my 5th so I'm not stranger to being behind the camera! I've been a horror movie nerd since I was just a wee one and am SO excited for the chance to compete in the ABC's of Death 26th Director competition!
Having the chance for a world-wide audience to see my work has been my dream since I can remember. To even have a serious chance like this is an incredible opportunity!
As this is a contest, I can't tell you what my short is about but what I CAN tell you is that my short is not your typical blood and guts, low budget horror movie. I am out to create something original, never seen before and most of all, extremely well shot. With the help of some of the best film making crew I know I will give you a project you will be proud to have been a part of! But enough with me, on to the gang!
Emma Julia Jacobs- Every film needs a star! I am proud to say we have a winner! You may have seen her in the major motion picture, Hitchcock or if you're a horror buff I'm sure you've spotted her in a dozen spooky movies. With the face of Marilyn and the acting chops of Audrey she's "gonna be huge!" as they say in the talking pictures. haha! Emma is also my partner-in-crime in producing this piece!
Robert G. Phelps- He’s our screenwriter, freshly minted from UCLA’s Screenwriting MFA Program. A former deputy public defender, he’s an expert at mining the fun side of the dark side. He loves horror movies more than death. He’s taught screenwriting, judged screenplays and films on the festival circuit, and received honors for his eccentric, yet disciplined, writing style. Some call him twisted. Some call him brilliant. Others don’t call him at all. We call him our man.
Diego Madrigal- Our Director of Photography- Diego has an incredible eye and is a true visual story teller. With credits a mile long and a resume to match, we are so happy to have him aboard, bringing our visions to life!
Mike Gilmore- The most creative editor you'll ever meet! Mike knows how to tell stories through timing and precision. With an amazing technical background and just incredible creative instinct he is one of the best editors in the business!
What We Need & What You Get
Making movies is one of the most rewarding experiences I've ever had. That being said, it's also one of the most expensive.
We're trying to raise $1700 in only 10 days to make our movie!
Here's how the cost breaks down-
-Lighting, Cameras, Housings, Sliders, etc. All the technical equipment it takes to make movie magic is where the bulk of our expenses will be going.
-Locations and the gas to get there
-FX Make Up- Whats a horror movie without it?
-Feeding the cast and crew
For your donations you will receive such perks as signed prints, invites to our screening, copies of the short dvd, producer credits, even a photoshoot with Ama! You can look to the right for more info!
The Impact
"Winning the competition was a dream come true and got my video in front of all the right people. Riding off of T is for Toilet I've had meetings with MTV, Big Talk and a possible claymation feature still in the pipeline with Ben Wheatley, which is being referred to as MEGAEVILMOTHERFUCKERS. I made friends with many of the ABCs Of Death crew from traveling around festivals with the ABCs film and even collaborated with some of them on my own personal projects since. Being a part of The ABCs Of Death has been the most important moment of my (horror obsessed/filmmaking) life." -Lee Hardcastle winner of ABC's of Death Part 1
Wow! That's just incredible. I am overjoyed for him and his success. It goes to show that this is a HUGE deal for film makers and an amazing opportunity. This is about making beautifully dark, quality cinema and at the same time making our dreams come true. That is the impact. We're not just making a short film, we're competing for an important spot in a feature film and a serious opportunity to change our lives and only you, the contributors can give us that chance.
