I have always been an animal lover, and since moving to Spain i have become actively involved with many organizations and charities who dedicate their lives to saving animals from terrible conditions, appaling acts of cruelty, and rescuing dogs from perreras (killing stations) where dogs are killed on a daily basis because nobody wants them...
Then a friend of mine i met along this long sad road, set up ACTIN...and now changes are happening, for the better, for the sake of the animals.
ACTIN is still in its early days, but already they have dealt with several cases of cruelty and neglect, and successfully denounced owners for their part in the ill treatment of their animals.
The aim of ACTIN is to be the voice of all animals in Spain, and to work towards making changes in the laws to improve the lives of all animals as currently the laws in place are not enforced.
On a daily basis ACTIN works tirelessly rescuing these poor creatures, denouncing the owners, and then rehomes them to people who give them the life they deserve.
All of this costs money. The dogs (and it is usually dogs who get the worst deal here) are usually in a terrible state when rescued. They nearly always need vet treatment, followed by vaccinations, chips, passports etc. Aside from all that, they need rehabilitating, decent food, foster homes, and hopefully when they have fully recovered, they transporting to their new forever homes.
Once ACTIN has denounced the owners, it then has to go to court..again funding is needed, solicitors dont come cheap.
At the moment ACTIN relies soley on members paying subscriptions, donations, online auctions on facebook, for any funding they need. ITS NOT ENOUGH
I want to be able to help out by raising funds in order for ACTIN to grow, so that one day, NO animals in Spain have to suffer.
ACTINS financial needs are ongoing, just like any organization like the RSPCA...there is no government funding here, we rely completely on the generosity of the public.
