David has not had an easy time as an actor. He has been
attacked by robots (Power Rangers), blown up by invisible hand grenades
(pilot episode of The Invisible Man TV series), threatened by space
pirates (pilot episode of The Privateers), humiliated by children
(iCarly), beaten up by Santa Claus (E.R.), arrested for murder (Monk),
tackled by superheroes (pilot episode of The Adventures of Megabyte
Man), intimidated by vampires (Demon Under Glass), and insulted by Larry
David (Curb Your Enthusiasm), among others. David is thrilled to be a
part of All of Me, where the only demons to be confronted are
metaphorical.
Let’s just say it: movies are hard to make. There are a lot of
independent moving parts that must miraculously come together in order
for an idea to become a thing you can experience. And all of these
moving parts (which, in our case, are a network of incredibly talented
people with bills to pay and bellies to feed) are expensive. More
expensive than you might think. Even an ultra low budget film can run
into the hundreds of thousands of dollars! There are a lot of services
that require more than flattery and internet praise to acquire.
I
am paying for all of the production - that's casting, table reads,
wardrobe, props, locations, permits, equipment, catering - myself. But,
unfortunately, I do still need to eat and pay for rent, so I can't quite
foot the bill for everything that happens AFTER we film - which happens
to be crucial in the life of a movie. So, here's what your generous donations will help with:
CAST & CREW:
Most of the cast and crew is working off deferred pay, which means,
yes, they'll definitely be paid, but their paycheck will come later. We
have quite a small team, but it still adds up. And all of our cast and
crew members deserve to be rewarded - and not just through social media
praise or good exposure - for all the hard work and heart they're
pouring into this project.
MUSIC: Okay, so this is
surprisingly the most expensive part of our budget. We have this
insanely talented composer who wants to create an original score for us!
This guy has some seriously awesome credits. He’s the former guitarist
of Trapt (of “Headstrong” popularity), he’s a solo artist, he’s Calvin
Goldspink’s producer and co-writer, and he tours with a ton of
well-known indie bands. Oh, and he’s also super jazzed to compose the
score for us! Drum roll please… Yes! It’s Robb Torres! He’s awesome,
talented, he’s a really good guy, and many other things, but free he is
not.
FESTIVAL SUBMISSIONS: This is one of those secret
expenses that you wouldn’t really think of when you decide to make a
short film. You don’t really see a lot of short films in movie theatres
(and I think you’d be pretty upset if you paid $15 for a 10-20 minute
movie), so the only way to get people to see your short film is to
submit it to film festivals. And that means submission fees, which cost
anywhere between $40-$150 PER FESTIVAL.
PREMIERE/PRESS: So
here in Tinsel Town, we love premieres. It’s when you rent out a
theatre, get all dressed up, roll out the red carpet, and screen (not
watch) the film. This is the best opportunity to get to Hollywood
somebodies to see and talk about your movie. We have connections at The
Standard, an awesome place to have your premiere, but even at a
discounted price, these things are quite costly.
Help us
create opportunities and chances. Anything you can give is
beyond-appreciated. Please share this video with all your friends and
family. It's an important story with an incredible team and we want to
take it to the next level. <3
