Amplification: An Album By Dragonfly
I'm JW Corey Tamas, the lead guitarist/singer/composer for a rock band named Dragonfly.
I'm also the producer of our first album, Amplification: a 14-song original rock/jazz/blues/electronica songs which will become a professionally-made digital album. It represents the culmination of hundreds of live shows and decades of songwriting... and it rocks pretty damn hard, if I do say so myself.
And now... I need your help to make Amplification a reality.
What Do We Need? What Do You Get?
We're only looking for $4,000, which isn't much as far as this sort of thing goes. $1,412 goes towards the recording and $2373 goes to the mastering. $280 is Indiegogo's cut of the total, and the remaining $65 will likely go into things like sandwiches and coffee for the band while they're at work. Possibly some breath mints.
We're going to give back as much as we can: Depending on the level of your contribution, you'll get your own copy of Amplification as a digital download (or on a USB drive if you like). But that's far from all: Electronica remixes and acoustic tracks that won't be available otherwise, T-shirts, signed cards and notes to say "thanks", and even an album credit as an executive producer. Whatever you contribute, we're gonna give you your money's worth and more. Promise.
If we don't make the goal, funds will cover as much of the recording and mastering fees as possible, but may result in a delay or cancelation of the project. Boo hiss.
Why Make Amplification?
The reason why this album matters became clear one night when I was talking with (drummer/composer) Aaron Ferrera about what I should do with the body of musical work I'd created. At the time I was unsure about pursuing an album project, and he responded to me simply: "Nobody else is doing music like this."
And he's right. The fusion of hard rock with jazz and blues and electronica with lyrics about spirit and philosophy break out of the radio-friendly zone in a big way. This world needs music that tries to do something new.
Though the scale of the project is daunting, I'm no stranger to independent album releases: I did two releases under my own name that paid for themselves in full, and I've been deeply involved in digital music recording and performance for over a decade. While Amplification is a big project compared to past efforts, it falls neatly into the range of my skill set and experience.
