Apulia Slow Coast è una avventura a pedali in cui un viaggiatore barbuto e il suo pedalò sfideranno la frenesia della vita quotidiana e la lunghissima costa pugliese per scoprire un punto di vista diverso: com’è la terra vista dal mare?
Il progetto
L’omino barbuto del nostro video è anche un uomo in carne ed ossa, si chiama Michele, ha 35 anni, ha origini campane e da quattro anni è approdato a Molfetta, in provincia di Bari, nel centro quasi esatto della costa adriatica pugliese. Un giorno Michele decide di mettersi alla prova e conoscere la regione che lo ospita e che ancora poco conosce, la casa dei pescatori dal viso rugoso solcato dal sole, dei pescherecci bianchi e blu dedicati alle donne di famiglia, dei fari bianchi in pietra come guide affidabili.
Il percorsolo porterà dalla Marina di Lesina alla Marina di Ginosa, tutto in mare, tutto in pedalò. Nessuna pietà per i suoi polpacci.
Il background e le motivazioni
A seguire Michele nella sua impresa un collettivo di filmaker e comunicatori sedotti dall’idea di poter osservare la Puglia da un punto di vista differente, dall’orizzonte nuovo a cui l’omino barbuto andrà incontro. Per 15 giorni il nostro pedalatore guarderà la costa dal lato del sole al tramonto, incontrerà persone, ascolterà storie, si muoverà lentamente e rifletterà un po’: quanto è cambiata una regione che è penisola nella Penisola? Una terra che propende verso l’Oriente pur rimanendo attaccata alla Vecchia Europa, che ha saputo accogliere nuovi visitatori nei secoli e che ha bisogno di ripensare sé stessa oggi, guardandosi dal di fuori, da una prospettiva inedita e piena di sorprese.
Il film
Apulia slow coast diventerà un film documentario, una produzione indipendente che racconterà il territorio costiero pugliese attraverso questo viaggio in pedalò. Tanti ospiti racconteranno il loro pezzetto di costa con le sue meraviglie, le sue contraddizioni, le sue ferite, i suoi abitanti.
Racconteremo in diretta il viaggio e la traversata attraverso video diari, reportage fotografici e il live blogging. Tutti questi materiali saranno il cuore del film documentario omonimo, Apulia Slow Coast, la storia di un moderno Ulisse che prova a ritrovarsi nelle acque del mare Adriatico.

Noi crediamo in un nuovo tempo possibile che scandisca lo sguardo sulla Puglia, un tempo “slow”, lento e accurato, pieno del romanticismo dei tramonti sul mare Adriatico, ma anche della fatica, quella terrena e tangibile, di un viaggio diverso che è anche una sfida fisica.
Il film Apulia Slow Coast racconterà la scelta di un uomo, ma anche quella di una regione, una costa magnifica che per ogni singolo km ha delle peculiarità che vanno raccontate, delle storie che vanno conservate e per raccontare questa impresa un po’ folle abbiamo bisogno dell’aiuto di altri folli: Voi!

Apulia Slow Coast is a pedalling adventure in which a bearded traveller and his pedalo will defy the bustle of everyday life and take on the long Apulian coastline to see things from a different perspective: what is the land like from the sea?
The project
The little bearded gentleman in our video also exists in flesh and blood; his name is Michele and is 35 years old. Originally hailing from region of Campania, he has for 4 years been settled in the town of Molfetta, near Bari, halfway down the Adriatic coast of Apulia. Michael decided one day to put himself to the test and find out more about the region that adopted him and that he still knows so little about. The shoreline is marked by the homes of fishermen, their wizened faces furrowed by the sun, the white and blue vessels christened after the female head of the household and the white stone lighthouses serving as dependable guides.
The route will lead him from Marina di Lesina to Marina di Ginosa, entirely by sea and by means of pedalo. His calves will be shown no mercy.
Background and inspiration
Following Michele throughout his mission is a collective of filmmakers and communicators seduced by the notion of observing Apulia from a different perspective, the new horizons that the bearded one will encounter. For 15 days our peddler will follow the sun as it rises and sets, meet new folk and gather anecdotes, unhurriedly reflecting as he goes: what has changed in a region that is a peninsula within the Peninsula? A land inclining towards the East while remaining attached to an Old Europe, Apulia has welcomed new visitors over the centuries yet is now charged with defining itself in new ways, from the outside looking in, from a new and surprising viewpoint.
The film
Apulia Slow Coast is to become a documentary film, an independent production telling the tale of the Apulian coast through the account of the trip on a pedalo. Various guests will depict their own piece of coastline in all its beauty, its contradictions, its wounds and its peoples.
We will follow the aquatic journey live through video diaries, photo reports and live blogging. The materials gathered will form the basis of the documentary of the same name, Apulia Slow Coast, the story of a modern Ulysses, on a personal voyage of discovery in the sparkling waters of the Adriatic Sea.

Apulia Slow Coast is meaningless unless shared, mutual, and participative - its bearded protagonist and all the Slow collective need to create the story together with you.
We believe in the possibility of a new era, witnessing Apulia in a different light, slow yet observant, charged with the enduringly romantic sunsets over the Adriatic Sea, but also fatigue, the earthly and the tangible, a new journey yet also a physical challenge.
