Why clowns?
My name is Brittany Flurry and I’m the writer/creator of Behind the Nose, a mockumentary about the behind-the-scenes world of a clown troupe abandoned by their circus. Since before I could remember, clowns have made me uneasy. To say the least. I fell in love with clowning while working towards my BFA in Acting. We studied the greats: Chaplin, Keaton, Irwin. I fell in love with the freedom to play, how clowns fully embody their emotions and thoughts, how they really live in the moment trying to get out of whatever trouble they have gotten in to. In making this movie, I not only wanted to delve back in to clown work, but explore who these people could be, who a professional clown is outside their persona, who are they really, Behind the Nose?
The heart and soul of this production comes from the talent and dedication of everyone involved. The success of this campaign due to YOUR contributions will enable us to finish principal photography and post-production. Donations will allow us to submit this film to festivals, and to produce DVD’s. Thus far, all funding has been out of pocket, and my cast and crew have agreed to work for deferred pay. I want them to be paid for their art. Recouping costs on equipment will allow me to more quickly and easily produce our future projects.
A note for our Director of Photography: Dana Rasmussen
I’m very fortunate to be a part of this amazing crew. We are a wonderful team and have worked very hard to put this film together. This is a fun story that has a little something for everyone. You’ll laugh your face off and at the same time it will touch your heart. If you enjoy a film with a good sense of humor it is a must see!
How you can help!
Our fundraising goal is $7,000. Any amount you are able to donate will help this project! No amount is too small! This money will go towards paying our cast and crew, equipment, costumes, props, craft services, and submissions to film festivals.
The cast and crew believe so much in this story and this project that they have all agreed to work for deferred pay. If you’re in the industry, you often take on “deferred” jobs knowing you will actually be working for “free”. I have worked a lot for free. I understand giving my time and artistry for something I believe in, or to extend my resume. However, I know that art IS work. And I believe people should be paid for their work. Donations will also help recoup costs on equipment, not to mention the money we spent on props and costumes for a movie about clowns! Craft services was a chunk of change as well- there was always food and drinks available on set for the crew and the actors. Your contribution will also help us submit this film to festivals, so our work can be seen! We’ve had a blast creating it, and we want to share it!
To show our gratitude, we have some great perks for you!
