From 2006-09 he founded and was the Artistic Producer of New City Collective, a company focused on performances in found/public/private spaces based out of Bangkok, Thailand. Notable interdisciplinary performance work includes: “Grumplestock’s” (2005, Edmonton), “Narok: Burning Down the Big Top” (2009, Bangkok), “End of Birth” (2009, Bangkok; 2010, Baltimore), “Last Will & Testament” (2012, Kelowna/Chilliwack), “Finding Pessoa” (2013, Kelowna/Chilliwack), “Mating Calls” (2013, Calgary/ Kelowna) and “[Insert Show Here]” (2014, Calgary). Aside from producing live performances, he also produces video and artistically researches how we are able to collectively, organically and sustainably work/live/dance/eat/converse/etc together.
THE PROJECT
BEING TOGETHER is part of a series of work dedicated to observing what it means to do things together, how we can work together and explore all the possible collective futures.
Through an invitation from Mile Zero Dance, this two-week Artist-in-Residency in March 2015 will build on past incarnations of this project. I seek to explore ways in which the public organically move together and encourages the spectator to take an active role in participating in collectively observing the movement/dance of the city around them. A couple having a coffee date at the Public Library; two business men in the Downtown core walking in rhythm and with the same foot forward; a tour group walking up the front stairs of the Art Gallery of Alberta; two strangers wearing identical colors crossing the crosswalk from opposite sides; the construction workers of today and of the past who build this city. Combining live performance, storytelling, new media, installation, and social art practice the work will ask the audience to consider the ways they move with in their city; how they contribute to the currents of their city; and what larger ‘movements’ occur and have occurred in their cities history.
