Brief Synopsis
Big Little Girl is the story of Samantha Wallace, a young girl who's had to grow up well before her time. Samantha dreams of being 'sexy' like her beautiful neighbor, Veronika so she can get the attention of Veronika's boyfriend, Billy. Only catch is that Samantha is just a 10-year-old child. Underneath her grown-up façade, she’s really just an innocent little girl, taking care of a grieving, drunken father (who expects her to be all grown up), coupled with societal pressures of what a girl is supposed to look like. This is a delightful story of love and heartbreak, innocence and friendship, and explores the themes of parental expectations juxtaposed with societal expectations and childhood fascination with an over-exposed culture of sexuality.
The Inspiration
My name is Viki Posidis and I'm the writer/director of "Big Little Girl". About four years ago my then 8-year-old niece Sarah, came to me with her new Pussycat Dolls cd. She was quite proud to show it off. Within the cd was a pull-out poster of the girls in the band - all scantily clad with sexual expressions on their faces. My niece said to me... "Aunty, look how sexy they are!" I was shocked by this emphatic statement. Did she even know what 'sexy' was?
So I asked her.
Her reply shocked me even more. "It's when a girl gets to wear really small clothes that shows off her body," she quips. Hmm, I wonder where she gets that idea from? But it was her last statement that had me bowled over. My innocent, blue-eyed beauty looks at me and proclaims.... "I can't wait til I'm twelve so I can be sexy too."
This little exchange with my niece was the inspiration for this film. For one, I didn't want her growing up believing that twelve was the golden age of "sexy". Nor did I want her thinking that 'sexy' had anything to do with being half naked. And thus, Big Little Girl was born. Not just for Sarah, but for all little girls out there who feel they need to fill the shoes of us "big girls" long before they are ready to.
A bit about me. I've directed five short films, two of which were commissioned by a corporation. As well, one of my films has won multiple awards. I'm also a prolific writer having penned seven features with another one in development. Several of my features have placed well in large screenwriting competitions.
I specifically love to work with children and Big Little Girl will be my third film that gives me that opportunity.

What We Need & What You Get
In order to make a film of high quality that we are all proud of and that is festival-worthy, we need a certain amount of money. Our budget brought us to approximately $12,500 including the portion we have to give to indiegogo.
We believe that no one should have to work for free when they are giving of their time and talents, thus we plan to offer something to our crew. Thus, a portion of our budget will go towards wages. Additional allocations will go to the various departments needed to achieve the look and feel we want, such as wardrobe, art department, equipment, and location fees. Most importantly, cast and crew work their tails off sometimes putting in as much as 12-14 hours a day. We want to feed our cast/crew well because a well-fed crew is an extremely productive crew.
It is often said that a film is brought to life with the edit, sound, music and effects. For this reason we've also budgeted 25% of our funds to post production so the finished product is something we can all be proud of.

The Impact:
My intentions for telling this story is to bring to light a very serious issue in society - that which I call sex-ploitation of our young children and teens. Our children (especially our girls) are bombarded with images of how we should look a certain way. Images in magazines and billboards scream sex. This is the reality of the advertisements that our children see daily. In order to attract a man we have to be sexy. In order to be 'accepted' by society's standards we have to look a certain way. And it's not just an issue within the advertising world. Even Barbie (with her disproportionate measurements) sets an unrealistic standard of what a woman is supposed to look like.
Our little girls are growing up way to fast, losing their innocence day by day because of the expectations placed on them by society and the sexually explicit marketing tactics used by many companies/corporations. This is just one small part of the problem that we intend to highlight in the film and hope that you will support us in our plight.
