BodyHacking Convention
BodyHacking is the act of modifying or augmenting one's own body for functional or aesthetic improvement. We want to bring together the body hacking community with the production of a convention consisting of both a conference hall with speakers as well as an expo floor for vendors, artists, and community projects. If we reach our fundraising goal, the conference will be held in the autumn of 2014 in Austin, Texas.
Trammell Productions will organize and execute the event. We currently also produce an information security and hacking conference in Austin in the spring called InfoSec Southwest, now in its third year, as well as many great information security and hacking conference parties such as the No More Cheap Bugs, ExploitHub One-Year Anniversary, and LOL Bitcoin parties held during the 2011, 2012, and 2013 BlackHat and DEFCON conferences, and the Get Your Blink On! party at last year's InfoSec Southwest conference.
What We Need & What You Get
The minimum budget we need to get this convention off the ground is $60,000.00. If we do not reach this fundraising goal, we will not move forward with this event. We hope that by offering attractive perks for donating, as well as using the perks system to sell special attendance packages, benefits, sponsorship packages, and vendor expo floor booths, we can not only fund the project but collect participation commitments from everyone that we hope to have involved with the conference. Please check out our perks and see if there is something that meets your desired level of participation!
The Impact
We believe that this subject is not only extremely interesting, but on the cutting edge of human development and the transhumanism movement. While many events related to transhumanism focus on the related technology or just the hard science aspects such as genetics and biohacking, we are also very excited about subjects such as wearable computing, the Personal Area Network, and even the purely aesthetic forms of body hacking such as non-functional implants and even tattoo. We feel that by bringing together this broader community, focused on a facet of transhumanism that doesn't necessarily get a whole lot of attention, we can create and host a really exciting and engaging convention.
