Making a New Nonprofit: Change Crowd!

Hi. I'm Todd Thomas, and I'm pursuing a dream to create a new nonprofit to change the world with a bunch of people throwing together to defeat disease! Together, we will purchase and supply needed HIV medications (antiretrovirals) to people who cannot afford them. Here's the vision...

*Change Crowd will be a nonprofit that purchases and delivers antiretrovirals to HIV infected people across the world, beginning on the African continent, by creating a donor base (crowd) of people giving only $10 a month!

• Donors will sign up for a $10 monthly bankdraft.
• The goal is that for $10 a month one donor will provide medications for one person.
• $10 montly is $120 annually which breaks down into two areas: 1) Approx. $90 annual to purchase the medications, and 2) approx. $30 annual to cover shipping and other costs of operation, per donor. Those numbers will change from location to location.
• We will not establish or operate clinical settings, but we will identify where the clinical settings are operating among infected populations, and get the medications to them for disbursement, providing all possible and required accountability in the process.
• Donors give the gift of life for only $10 a month!

Why Antiretrovirals?

If you've experienced or researched global poverty and disease cycles then you have probably been a bit frustrated at where to start making a difference. Change Crowd will join the fight to defeat the impact of HIV in the lives of as many individuals as we have donors. We aren't all multi-national grant writing foundations, but we can still be involved in the change! Here's a glimpse of that impact:

• Antiretrovirals extend life. (Boom! You're giving the gift of life!)
• If the meds are going to a mother or father, then you are helping keep a family together and strong! (fewer orphans)
• If mom and dad are alive and healthy, then they can work, which means they are better providing for their family! (economic impact)
• If mom and dad are providing for their family, then older siblings can go to school instead of raising younger siblings! (educational impact)
• If a mom has another child while receiving the medication, the antiretrovirals almost completely eliminate the risk of transfering HIV to the child at birth. (transmission rate)
• IMAGINE! For $10 a month, there is a way to have all that potential impact! Providing antiretrovirals can pontentially affect transmission rates, education, economy and family unit integrity in communities around the world!

That's what we need to get this orgaization established and started well. Right now there's me: Todd Thomas. I'm just a guy. But I'm backed by a small Board of amazing people! I have a Board member who knows money, Susan Gallagher CFP. Several of us have lived on the African continent: myself, Teresa Thomas and Tod Vogt, and we've experienced the HIV epidemic there first-hand. We have a world-traveled doctor on the Board, Dr. Bob Kiser. Our commonality is that we are ready to make this happen!

• We are going to use Foundation Group to get established and learn to be great, not just good, at operating a nonprofit.
• After a successful Indiegogo campaign we hope to have the organization completely established and ready for the next steps by the Spring of 2014.
• All money raised here will go to the founding and operational needs of Change Crowd.
