I am Karen Anzoategui, gender-queer/writer/performer and I am making a documentary along with Producer Eddie Ruiz, Director Marcos Najera and director of photography Eddy Martin, following the development of my solo/spoken word piece CATHOLIC SCHOOL DAZE (CSD) about my Catholic high school experience where I was bullied by administrators and peers to confess a lie that I committed a gay act in order to be a "scapegoat" for exemplary punishment of queers.


Throughout the filming of the documentary, CSD catapulted into an interactive workshop using theatre of the oppressed techniques and community building in order to address trauma the audience/participants would expose.

 I realized I needed the help of community and mental health professionals to address the deep-rooted issues that are brought up by the performance.

 The interactive workshop became an opportunity to build community/reclaiming spiritual/safe/empowered space for queers and a space for faith communities and queer communities to come together and have discourse. 

The team provides resources on site/informational pamphlets with resource materials and offers crisis intervention and one on one interaction in a safe space created by the performance while I offer theatre techniques based on Augusto Boal's Theatre of the Oppressed Techniques.

 If this documentary gets funded, it can reach a wider audience and increase it’s impact.

This documentary can reach those struggling with bullying, suicidal thoughts, self-mutilation and cutting to help them have a platform to discuss the issues within a safe and reclaimed space that they might ashamed to bring up otherwise.  

The total is $2500.00 for production costs for the continuation of the filming and live performance filming, post production costs such as editing, sound mixing and music and pay my collaborators.
