This game would be defined as a RTS space simulator. Single player with skirmish multiplayer mode.
The idea was at first to create a Homeworld clone, but it grew and became a blend of Homeworld, Elite and maybe a little bit of Sid Meiers Pirates.
You control spaceships in a 3D enviroment. Point and click controls with keyboard shortcuts.
This game is about combat, ship management and modifications, construction, mining and exploration.

The Story
You are for hire.
You live in a ravaged and a dangerous solar system.
Some centuries ago many solar systems were connected together using wormhole techology.
Wormhole generators were used to create a wormhole and connect it to the nearest solarsystem. A space ship would go through the wormhole, set up shop and construct a wormhole Stabilizer on the other end, thus connecting the two solar systems. Using this method dozens of solarsystems were connected, explored and settled.
Then everything went to hell. A rapture. The Stabilizers stopped working for some reason. The wormholes became unstable, chaotic and destructive. Each stabilizer became a eye in a storm.
These storms, centered around the stabilizers would send waves of destruction out into the solar systems, disconnecting them from each other and wrecking havoc to everything in them. Waves of destructive energy would sweep the solar systems, gravity would shift at random points, massive energy surges would appear out of nowhere and wormholes would appear at random points in the solar system.
Ships, stations and planets were not safe. Destruction ran rampart. Ships disappeared, stations were ripped apart and planets crumbled under massive gravitational waves.
But mankind survived. Not everything was destroyed. Stations survived, ships escaped and people lived. People rebuilt and multiplied. Space has become a rough place to live in.
Destroyed planets are now massive asteroid belts and vast areas are dangerous to travel due to corrosive elements and abnormal space activity.

Game setting
The game takes place in our Solar system. The Sol system. Earth has been destroyed. Torn apart by massive gravitational forces and spread out in a huge asteroid field.
People struggle to survive in space stations and colonies. Raiders and pirates operate freely in outskirts of the solar system. Several factions fight for control over resources and lost technology.
The solar system was fully colonized before the rapture so it's ripe for exploration and rediscovery. Old techological treasures can be found, old caches of minerals await to be opened, and maybe some advanced lost spaceships wait to be awaken.
What kind of game is this?

Game Play
Freedom
This game offers the player to explore the solarsystem as he sees fit. Explore asteroid fields or ancient battle sites. Hunt for pirates to claim their bounty, ship mercantile between stations, take on various jobs from companies or factions or raid those ripe merchant ships for their goods.
Command
Command your fleet on a detailed map. Move freely in 3D space.
Each ship can be micromanaged. Energy is essential. Boost those weapon systems while draining power from engines or repair systems. Just be sure you dont have to go anywhere in a hurry.
Mine asteroids, raid ships, find forgotten or hidden treasure caches.

Customize
Customize your ship with various equipment. Need a fast ship with radar? Remove those energy demanding weapons and install a large radar and add an extra engine. Do your enemies prefer missile systems? Add point defense systems to your ships to destroy those missiles.
Combat
Order ships around, target enemies, destroy subsystems. Capture vessels. Destroy the enemy.
The game has a simple AI for each ship. Order a ship to attack another ship and it will do that the best it can. You can also modify how aggressive or passive it is toward enemies.
The game uses area based armor. This means that if armor on one side of your ship is heavily damaged it would be a good idea to swing your ship around.
Interact
This is a active solarsystem. Traders move about, Stations build and sell various goods. Factions fight each other an pirates and raiders make life a little interesting.
You can affect all of this, choose a side to support, watch it grow as other become weakend or destroyed.
The Development Team
Currently its just me, my wife and my friend. I'm Tryggvi Hákonarson. 35 year old. Husband and father. Long time gamer and programmer. Hi!.
My wife, Sólveig árnadóttir, 30 year old, Wife and mother, theologist and writer. Bonjour!
And my friend, Þórarinn Heiðar Harðarson, 35 year old dad, amateur actor, programmer and gamer.
In addition Yagya will provide music for the game.
I have B.S. degree in computer science. I‘ve been developing games in my spare time for about 3-4 years now and I believe that I have enough know how and experience to deliver a complete product.
I grew up playing various computer games. From Elite, Wolfenstein and Homeworld to Assassins Creed, ElderScroll series, Original Fallout games to Fallout 3 and the Xcom series new and original.
Homeworld was and still is one of my favorite games.
When I started programming games I decided to create a Homeworld clone to master Unity3D. But it grew and became something that I want to see completed.
Its been tough spending most of my free time programming the game so I‘m hoping to raise enough money to work on the game full time.
I want to complete this project.
I know that I am unknown, I have no reputation, but please judge me by what you see here on this site, the screenshots and the video.
Some people in my life who are programmers or 3D artists have promised to help me with this venture.
What is the status of this project?
This project is about 50-60 percent complete. Most of the heavy lifting in the coding department is done. I've started constructing models for the game and creating the main storyline. I'm missing sound effects and voice acting. I believe I will be able to release the game within one year, so early next year 2014 or summer 2014.
What will I use the money for?
Survival.
Like most mammals I need food, sleep and warmth.
My goal $ will let me work fulltime for about 8 months.
Enough time to finish the game or complete it at least 90%.
Software.
Licence for the Unity3d Pro Game engine and maybe some code (Why reinvent the wheel).
Single player
Create a fun single player experience. Create engaging main story line.
Audio
Buy existing audio or hire someone to create audio for the game.
Voice acting.
Models and texture
Add more exciting ship designs to the game and beautiful textures.
Optimization
The game demands lots of CPU resources right now. I will try to reduce the demand by optimizing the code.
Stretch Goals.
25 K Space Station Capture. Setup your own base of operations.
30 K Fleet command. Manage and control multiple fleets on the large game
40 K Mac and Linux support. Play the game on your Mac or Linux machines.
50 K Expanded gameplay . I will create extra material for the game. Extending the gameplay time.
