For as long as I can remember I have wanted to sing. My passion is music. I want to make it as an artist.
For my video I took on a challenging song to take me out my comfort zone. It is a live unmanipulated single take with my band.
"Jeez girl, you can sing!" Lucie Silvas
"I can honestly say her voice is even more amazing live" Tom, DJ at Croydon Radio.
"The world needs a little more Chess. She's beautiful, she has a beautiful spirit and her voice is beautiful" Zalon
"You never cease to amaze me. You are growing from strength to strength. You are living proof that hard work, does really work! Joshua Alamu
Number 1 in the Maltese radio charts, with debut single 'Stilettos'.
Nominated for Best Solo Artist in Malta at the Malta Music awards (2014).
I want to use this campaign to get me to the next stage of my career. A successful campaign will do this for two reasons:
1) It is essential for me to have a collection of well produced covers in my portfolio that people can listen and relate to. I want to be able to show versatility and creativity whilst paying respect to some timeless songs that people can enjoy. I have covered many songs trying to find my vocal style, such as 'Say You Love Me' - Jessie Ware.
2) Once I gain a bigger following and some new fans, my original songs can take more of a priority and I can invest the amount of professionalism that the songs need in order to get them up to, or surpass, standard. Although, I will always re-create existing songs into covers throughout my career.
For this project I will produce a cover album named CHESS: THE GREAT GIG and videos of each of the following amazing songs:
1. Oh, had I a golden thread, Eva Cassidy
2. You make me feel like natural woman, Aretha Franklin
3. I've got to see you again, Norah Jones
4. Somebody to love, Queen
5. At last, Etta James
6. Cry me a river, Julie London
7. Kissing You, Des'ree
8. Will you be there, Michael Jackson
9. All that Jazz, Chicago
10. The Great Gig in the Sky, Pink Floyd
If I am lucky enough to raise any additional funds, the money will go towards the release of my first album.
The biggest current challenge I face is supporting myself financially while I try and break into a music industry that has changed beyond recognition. Working low paid jobs takes so much of my time and energy away from music. It also limits the amount of money I can put towards my own music production that will help me break into the industry.
The chances of being signed by a major record label are far smaller than ever before with the internet giving everybody access to free or cheap music. Especially, as there are so many really really talented artists online. My challenge is to break through this and produce music that people want to hear. One thing that will never change is that people will always listen to good music.
A specific challenge for this project is while working a day job, finishing the recording, mixing, filming, editing and mastering could take longer than planned, which would mean that you might have to wait a little longer than you expect for your rewards. If that were to happen, I would keep you updated throughout the process.
I don't think there is a significant risk that I will not be able to finish the cover recordings and videos. Firstly, because they are very well planned out. Secondly, I have a great team already lined up to work on them with me. Finally, music is my life. It means everything to me and not producing this music is unfathomable to me.
If I am lucky enough to receive more money than I have aimed for (please note the amount above is the bare minimum and I will still have to pay for things myself too)
If I reach:
£5,500 - I will also record a new original song.
£6,500 - I will record a new original song and make a professional looking video for it.
£7,500 - The above plus make a better webiste and new commercial logo which will be up to industry standard!
Anything more goes towards my next record!
