Only a few months ago, we lost a cousin to cancer. Unfortunately, it wasn't the first time cancer has struck our family. My wife, daughter & I have also seen several friends diagnosed, though, thankfully, they received the miraculous recoveries that so many pray for every day.
While we've often donated to The American Cancer Society, somehow, that just doesn't seem to be enough right now. More must be done. While money for cancer treatment and research programs will always need to be raised, a bigger objective is to get more of our fellow human beings involved in the rejection of cancer as an inevitable reality of life. I think we can accomplish some of this with music.
As I have often done in the past, I have turned to my fellow musicians for help. Surely, I thought, we could raise some money, raise awareness and raise some holiday spirits, too. A holiday CD called "Christmas Without Cancer" is how I hope to do this. Everyone involved has generously donated their music, looking for nothing in return, beyond being a part of the healing, answers and hope that so many families are in need of. 100% of the proceeds from the sales of the CD are going to The American Cancer Society. All money raised through this fundraiser will go towards manufacturing & mastering the CD, promotion & distribution. If we raise funds beyond what is needed to accomplish this, those funds will also be donated.
Participating artists include; Mimi Betinis (Pezband/Off Broadway), Frank Royster, The Grip Weeds, Michael Carpenter, Lisa Mychols, The Click Beetles, Sketch Middle, Jerry Woods, The Yule Logs, 89 Mojo, Bill Lloyd (Foster & Lloyd), Braam, Brandon Schott, Graham Elvis (Elvis Brothers) and Jeremy.
I've seen cancer up close, and what a terrible, horrible thing it is. It is relentless. It has no problem with taking women, it has no problem with taking innocent children. It is a destroyer that must be stopped. Let's do this.
