BECOME A CO-AUTHOR OF NEW MASS IN B MINOR CD!

The collective CD of Collegium 1704 and its supporters will see the light of the day soon. And here you can listen to the first – still somewhat raw - part of it which our sound masters have just sent us:
https://soundcloud.com/collegium1704/cum-sancto...

Collegium 1704 and Collegium Vocale 1704 are Prague ensembles that are dedicated to music of the baroque and classical periods. Playing a major role in the ensembles’ repertoire has been Jan Dismas Zelenka, whom we have chosen as our emblematic composer. We are proud that we have also made a contribution towards Jan Dismas Zelenka being regarded today not only as an important Czech composer, but also as one of the most important baroque composers of Europe.

We are glad that we have now successfully taken another step: approaching the biggest step of all.

J.S.Bach

For all musicians who love and dedicate themselves to early music, the recording of Bach’s great Mass in B Minor is one of the supreme tasks and one of the biggest challenges. You will certainly want to know, of course, why one would make a new recording of the B Minor Mass when there are already so many – possibly even hundreds – in existence.

It would never occur to me to “carry coals to Newcastle” – to offer listeners something that they could have heard several times already in previous recordings. The B Minor Mass, after all, is a work that perhaps more than any other has been burdened over the centuries with layers of performance tradition in the good sense of the word, but also in the bad.

I am convinced, however, that sufficient attention still has not been devoted to how the music actually speaks, what the composer's inspiration was, how he combined all conceivable influences in his musical language, the question of tempo, the question of color… Actually, the things that have received most of our attention have been the “tools of the trade,” the basic means of production of music, but we have not been dedicating ourselves to the music itself.

I would also like to promise our listeners that the recording speaks with new colors, that we will reveal something that has not been heard before, and that we are bringing out a new, interesting view of the Mass in B Minor.

WE ARE CLOSE TO OUR GOAL, BUT WE STILL NEED YOUR HELP!

In order for this recording to be realized successfully in the manner that we envision, we need the support not only of our publisher and our production team, but also of the public. We also need your support, including financial support, because similar projects cannot get by without broad financial support.

That is why we are reaching out to you in this way, so that you might participate and be a co-author of our new B Minor Mass.

The Prague baroque orchestra Collegium 1704 and vocal ensemble Collegium Vocale 1704 were founded by harpsichordist and conductor Václav Luks in 2005 on the occasion of the BACH - PRAGUE - 2005 project. This marked the begining of their regular collaboration with the Prague Spring International Music Festival.

Highlight projects with star singers - Vivica Genaux, Magdalena Kožena, Véronique Gens, Sara Mingardo, Bejun Mehta, Topi Lehtipuu and new concert series Baroque Opera Stars in collaboration with the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra are completed by rich recording activities especially focused on "Czech Bach" Jan Dismas Zelenka and acclaimed by Gramophon, Diapason and awarded the Schalpattenkritik Preis.
