Commissioner Bowens was elected on November 5th
2011 with over 65% of the Vote. He ran on a platform of creating a vibrant
innovative Community for Benton Harbor. Since being elected Commissioner Bowens
has been an advocate for the working man and woman of Benton Harbor and
fighting for neighborhood improvements and blighted areas to be cleaned up in
Benton Harbor.
Commissioner Bowens knows that in
order to create a vibrant and efficient Benton Harbor, investment must be made
in Benton Harbor. On August 5th 2013 Commissioner Bowens voted yes
to put a city income tax on the ballot to allow the voters to decide if they
wanted it. The local Tea Party and
Republican Party funded a massive campaign against it, and the proposal
ultimately lost.
Thinking that was over, we moved on to the difficult work of
building a better Benton Harbor. Now those same special interest groups started
a recall campaign against Commissioner Bowens for the following
BENTON HARBOR — Recall petition language has
been filed against Benton Harbor City Commissioner Trenton Bowens by William
Spinks of Benton Harbor.
In the petition, Spinks said Bowens should be
recalled because he voted “yes” to allow the city income tax proposal to be
placed on the Nov. 5 ballot.
The proposal was defeated.
A clarity hearing has been set for 9 a.m. Dec. 6
in the board room of the Berrien County Administration Center, 701 Main St.,
St. Joseph.
