CRITICAL MASS:
An independent documentary film.
My name is Myek O'Shea. I am a filmmaker from Saskatchewan which is the front end of the nuclear industry. Not only have we contributed the most uranium to US and French nuclear weapons arsenals, but this province boasts the largest CO2 emissions per capita on the planet. That's right! Saskatchewan went from global leader in social medicine and the breadbasket of the world, to lead antagonizer of the climate crisis.
The longer we wait to convert to clean energy, the less options our children will have in the future.
How do we change?
In 2009, the Sask Party government told the public that a panel of experts was asked to report on energy alternatives for the future of Saskatchewan. Furthermore, the government called for public input, asking citizen whether nuclear was the right choice.
CRITICAL MASS is a broad discussion within a restricted political arena. Hearing voices of those impacted by the industry, and visions about the future of our province, of energy production, and first-hand accounts on uranium tailings spills in the north.
The film attempts to peel back the layers of this radioactive onion to better understand what a Uranium expansion PR campaign is all about. This sales campaign in Saskatchewan serves as an exemplar for those around the world near uranium deposits. Some describe this as "3rd world politics".
The public consultations were an attempt at a democratic decision making process.
This film is an attempt to represent 1000s of voices that were later pigeonholed into the Perrins Report, which you can download from www.captainpower.ca
