About us

Crowdknitting is a social network for the knitting lovers and for all those who wish to learn more about this activity; children, teenagers, adults, mothers and grandmothers, schools and companies, creative people or knitter wannabe. A new way of meeting and connecting, a thread that links, creating relationships and new opportunities

The name CrowdKnitting is a mixture of the word crowd, an assembly of people and a word often used in the marketing field to indicate something that implies sharing and collaboration, and the word knitting, an activity we all enjoy doing.

Thus, the original goal of CrowdKnitting was to create collective and shared yarn bombing projects to characterise the urban landscape and support social projects. Almost necessarily, this idea quickly evolved into a knitcommunity; people who make of their passion for knitting a way of expressing themselves and a business opportunity.

The Project

Crowdknitting is a Social Network which aims at helping the innovation and growth of the "hand-knitted in Italy" industry with new ideas and challenges coming from the variety of its Community. The social platform goal is to help its members get in touch with other people in order to create relations and professional opportunities, a place where individuals with a common interest can interact with the support of technology.

With this idea in mind, we created the You4Knitting Project, with the objective of giving stylists, knitwear designers and creative talents the opportunity to meet colleagues as well as to find companies interested in buying their work, while giving companies the possibility of accessing new ideas and creative innovation.

We are thus about to launch an e-commerce platform based on ideas coming from the community , products that are handmade by our 'certified knitters'. 

Thanks to the You4Knitting project and to the short distribution chain (community-knitters-customers), everyone will benefit ; turning a passion into a job, selling high-quality products at a fair price.

Original handmade items with a soul, recognizable through their own identity card and specific features. 

Crowdknitting will also become a market place opened to everyone willing to offer its products.

Every knitter has his/her own history, but we all share one passion: knitting.

Crowdknitting is not only web!

We started a net of Crowdknit Cafes, a new way of perceiving knitting, a synthesis between an event and a starting point for the circulation of a new culture; a group of people who meet to knit and share ideas and projects, but also promotional events for businesses that see knitting as an innovative way of socializing.

At the moment, we have 22 Crowdknit Cafes all over Italy, but we dream to see them spread to other countries too! 

What do we need?

Crowdknitting is a project based on highly customized open source technology which needs continuous graphic development and UI support to make it as user-friendly and intuitive as possible.

These interventions, that so far we have financed ourselves, need continuous funding. 

Furthermore, the manufacturing of handmade items designed by our creative talents need an initial investment to start the production chain. 

Therefore, our objectives are:

- to implement new modules to further develop our Social Platform and the Market Place;

- to manufacture at least 2 collections of handmade clothes in 2014 in order to start off this type of business.

Knitting and sharing:   four friends passionate about knitting and the social network they created and manage. This is how Crowdknitting.com was born, behind this name the very idea of intercepting the Italian community of knitting enthusiasts. Online discussion for “knitters”, people who love knitting. Not only online. In fact, the Crowdknitting team has been organizing “Crowdknit Cafes”, for years, which are meetings to knit together.

How does the Crowdknitting Store work?

1.  Our stylists design models to be produced; these models will be sent to our knitters together with the necessary yarn to realise them.

2.  Every knitter knits the models in different colours, every garment has its own identity card.

3.  The customer can choose an item from our shop window; if the item is currently available, Crowdknitting Store will dispatch it immediately; if it isn't available, it can be ordered and it will be received within 30 days.

4.  The quality and conformity of the items is guaranteed by the care with which we choose our designers and knitters.

Crowdknitting taps into its community to receive feedback and suggestions about the models to be offered; these suggestions are crucial to creating a handmade product whose quality is the highest possible.
