Come along for the ride…
Ever wonder what a bunch of AARP refugees do between retirement and assisted living? For a few of us in Maryland who grew up watching westerns, the answer was to form One-Eyed Horse Productions, LLC (OEH) and make a classic western. Four years later, having forgotten the challenges of making our first film, we decided to saddle up once more and make a second feature, Day of the Gun. With 15 months of filming behind us, we’re ready to shoot the final scenes, complete post-production work, and premiere this indie western before riding off into the sunset.
About the movie
Day of the Gun revolves around a range war started over a barbed wire fence. Widow Maggie Carter presses cattle baron Cyrus McCall to take down the wire that threatens her survival as a rancher. The conflict escalates when their children get involved and a mysterious stranger from Maggie’s past comes back into her life.
Told in flashback by eighty-year-old former newspaper editor Simon Doubleday, Day of the Gun is set in Singletree, Montana, an 1890s mining and cattle town. Doubleday recalls the town’s glory days, full of life and hope - and heartbreak.
The production team has been very fortunate to enlist the talents of prominent local and regional actors, S.A.S.S. members, stunt men and women, family, friends, and sometimes strangers who just happened to show up on the set. The film will also boast several nationally known actors who just couldn’t resist doing a western - even if it was made in Maryland.
Our team has worked hard to create a sense of period and place. Victorian dress, antique weapons, and Montana location footage will carry our audience back in time. Many volunteers worked through a hot, humid summer and a particularly cold winter to bring Singletree to life. The town now features a church, saloon, bank, mortuary, livery, jail, train station, eatery, and more - all places a part of any dusty western town.
Many people have donated their time, talents, and resources to Day of the Gun. For this, OEH is eternally grateful and hope they enjoy seeing their efforts on the big screen. We think you'll like what we've done and want you to be able to see it too, BUT we need your help to get there...
