Remember when Black movies didn't neccesarily star a dude in a fat suit and a wig? Or have major plot twists timed to Gospel numbers for no apparent reason? No? Damn...
Well believe it or not there was a time when "Black Art-House" was a thing. When movies like Do The Right Thing, Hollywood Shuffle, and Boyz In The Hood were breaking box office records as well as making us laugh, cry, and think in ways movies hadn't before.
The humble producers of DEAR WHITE PEOPLE, a satire about being a black face in a white place, long to bring those days back. But we can't do it without you!
Here's the deal...we're looking to raise seed money that will go a tremondously long way in securing the capital we'll need to produce our million dollar indie feature. With our trailer, script and your help, we believe we can bring this exciting piece of cinema to life! Join us, won't you?
![DWP2 BoFros]()
Join us by helping to seed this awesome project! We've got a promotional trailer and a great script, but we need your help in getting it in front of the right people. In order to acquire the capital needed to move into production we'll be using funds raised to:
- Cast
- Retain legal services
- Prep a production budget and schedule with a skilled line producer
- Put on a star-studded table read event in June to attract financiers
- Research, storyboard and cover other pre-production costs
In return we are gonna hook you up!
We see you as a partner in the film and want to make you a part of this experience. In exchange for your help we're dishing out on-screen credits, a VIP seat at our star studded table read, official merchandise, and even a walk on role in the film! Check out all the cool prizes to the right and join the DWP fam!
![Party Party]()
DEAR WHITE PEOPLE follows the stories of four black students at an Ivy League college where a riot breaks out over a popular "African American" themed party thrown by white students. With tongue planted firmly in cheek, the film will explore racial identity in "post-racial" America while weaving a universal story of forging one's unique path in the world.
There hasn't been a film like DEAR WHITE PEOPLE in a long time, and it's sure to cause a stir once we get it to the big screen.
Our creative team is passionate, diverse, connected and experienced enough to get this project to the finish line...with a little help from you of course!
