Hey! My name is Mirra Kardonne, I'm an actor and mixed-media artist in Toronto.
This is a photography project very close to my heart, my photographic response to an expanding culture of abuse, violence and de-himanizing of men and women.
This is a photo-narrative depicting power imbalances and dynamics occurring in a sexual relationship between a man and woman. The principle thesis of the project is: I am more real to myself than anyone around me is to me. I know that to someone else, I am less real then they are to themselves. Seeing another as less real than oneself is to subtract from them their perspective and its equality with our own perspective, leaving them a hollow outside, an object to be perceived, but not empathized with. Working off this thought, the questions in this narrative become: “WHAT are you to me?” and “HOW do I need you now?” In each photograph, one of the two lovers will be distinctly human, the other will adopt inhuman characteristics (for example, animal or elemental qualities) in order to convey to the audience what their specific 'utility' is to their lover in that moment.
I need funding, first of all, to pay everyone involved! I truly believe in artists being paid for their work and their time.
Funding will also go towards printing and production costs, prop/set construction. Lastly, funding will be used to enter it into festivals and exhibits, as well as crisis centers, women's centers, to create a healing-initiative.Any contribution helps, no matter how small! This is a labour of love for everyone involved, and I hope to spread the message of speaking out against objectification and violence as far as the message can go. The whole team is grateful for your contribution to help make this project a reality.
Contribution or no, you can help by sharing the Youtube video on your online social networks!
Thanks you so much for taking the time to learn about Depicted in Human Form!
Much Love,
