I believe we're at the beginning of a design BOOM, a proliferation of digitally-generated design. With my new system of digital creation techniques and programs, I am able create hundreds of unique designs, from furniture to vessels, to jewelry. My work exists at the intersection of industrial production and craftsmanship, so every piece I create is hand-folded and one-of-a-kind. We're so, so close to the edge of the digital precipice, and I invite you to take the leap with me with this campaign for my digital vessel!

IF YOU'RE A CHINESE DESIGNER, WHY ARE YOU LAUNCHING ON AN AMERICAN PLATFORM?

For me, Indiegogo and the design-supportive community of the United States is the perfect launch point. I believe that Indiegogo is the right platform to find the support needed to launch an entire digital revolution, a generation of backers that understand and can identify with my vision. A successful Indiegogo campaign will open all of the following possibilities for me, including larger production and more in-depth research.

HOW DID YOU GO FROM BEING A CLASSICAL CHINESE PAINTER TO BEING A STEEL DESIGNER?

HOW DO YOU DO IT?

Fundamentally, the core of my design process is in creating a collaborative environment between the designer and the computer.

Using custom designed software, I code a series of rules for each pattern. Every rule that I add is a limitation which determines the shape, size, and style of each design. After carefully selecting the limitations, the computer generates the most logical pattern that can fit within these specifications. However, each computer generated pattern is constrained to the screen, and can only be represented two-dimensionally. This means, ultimately a human mind has to discover their potential three-dimensional forms, and determine their practicality as functional objects.
