Voices of Women Media
Displaced’ gives power to HERstory. Her story of migration, of exploring who she is and celebrating it. Her story of longing and belonging. Of struggling. Her story of creation. Of Empowerment.
And Voices of Women Media is there, to provide her with the video and photography tools and a safe and creative space for HER to tell HERstory.
‘Displaced’ gives migrant girls the power tonow talk about the injustices and inequalities they faced, their resistance, and their political struggles. Such as Ilena, who made a passionate and poetic short film about her experiences as a migrant in the Netherlands.
‘Displaced’ gives power to women such as Adriana, who migrated to a new country for a better life, while still being haunted by Saudade(the feeling of missing something you love while knowing that its likelihood of return is unknowable and entirely left to fate).(PHOTO link )
‘Displaced’ gives power to the migrant girls, who can now tell the stories of their parents. A former participant of one of our workshops, Dionne, made this short film honoring her family who migrated to the Netherlands from Suriname.
Support us and be the one who gives power to HERstory!
What We Need & What You Get
Several parts of our workshop, such as accommodations and trainee compensation have already been approved for funding, but we will only receive the funds if we are able to secure the remaining money ourselves.
This is where you come in! We need just little bit more in order to execute the complete workshop.
In total we need €5000, this will go to;
Workshop Activities: €2200
Travel Costs: €600
Volunteers: € 900
Publicity: € 700
Equipment: € 600
Your support is needed to make this project a reality, and to help fight discrimination against migrants in Europe. We offer nice perks in return, and of course you get the satisfaction of knowing you are contributing to a good cause!
Other Ways You Can Help
We need more than just money to make this happen. Please spread the word by letting friends and family know about this campaign, especially if they are migrants or interested in migrant and women’s rights.
We also welcome sponsors that can contribute food, material and equipment (such as cameras). Additionally, we are seeking a space where we can keep the exhibition. In exchange, we can offer you exposure and promotion. If you are interested please contact us and we can write up a proposal.
Long Term Impact
Our main goal is to train and equip the participants with multimedia skills, which they will use to increase the visibility of of their experiences as migrant women.
What we ultimately want is to reduce xenophobia in the host countries and to empower the participants with the ability to tell their own stories. This will implicitly challenge mainstream media coverage of them, as well as stereotypes, and raise awareness about their lives and rights as migrant women.
Our Experience
Since we began in 2007 we have build up a lot of experience in this field. We have organized several successful multimedia workshops where we have worked with different groups of women. We have worked with young migrant women, sex workers, survivors of “loverboys” (pimps that prey on young girls) and undocumented women, amongst others. With each project a printed publication and a DVD of the women’s video-stories has been published.
