E-Pub Co-op offers the resources and support authors would get from a traditional publisher -- editing and feedback, design, conversion, and marketing help -- in a team environment with DIY Writing experts and peers. Each team member will leave this 12-week program with their own ebook self-published under the DIY Writing label that they can share with their readers for 100% of the profits -- no strings attached, and no fees to join.

Why?

We believe authors with Big Ideas deserve a clear path to publishing a professional-quality book without handing their life's savings to author services or forfeiting their rights to a publisher. Our model looks like this:

Authors enter the program through an application process, submitting a book proposal and an overview of their author brand and goals for the book. For each session of the Co-op, we'll form a team of 5 authors to publish 5 ebooks in 12 weeks. Authors work together at every stage to provide peer review on the concept, writing, design, and marketing plan for the book. As the publisher, DIY Writing provides a Team Leader to guide the process, and in-house copyeditors and cover designers to polish the ebook.

Authors retain full control over their book, so they get final say on all writing, formatting, and design decisions; and the're free to hire outside editors or designers throughout the publishing process. DIY Writing authors retain full rights to their books, so they can distribute independently in any form once published. DIY Writing claims only first electronic rights and the perpetual right to sell the first edition of the ebook through the DIY Writing Bookstore for a 50% commission.

By taking this cooperative, community approach to publishing, we help authors self-publish professional-quality ebooks without the high costs of contractors, plus augment promotional efforts by weaving together the networks of 5 authors. Through the DIY Writing Bookstore, we're able to promote our authors and recoup the costs of publishing while leaving full rights and control of the book in the authors' hands.
