About the project
Edith, Elizabeth and I, is a one woman show in development, and is inspired by the life and works of avant-garde poet Edith Sitwell with particular focus on her two biographies of Queen Elizabeth the 1st. It also explores the idea that in trying to tell someone else’s story, your story inevitably gets in the way.
Our aim is to produce a humorous and human telling of three women with robust personalities vying for the role of leading lady.
This project has been a labour of love for Simon Magnus (Director) and myself for nearly two years. With a few moments of nearly abandoning ship, some great meetings with interesting people and some good adventures thrown in, we are still here and now have a solid backbone for the play and a great team assembled.
Why we need your help
It's now time to put flesh on the bones and produce a strong, striking piece of new theatre writing.
We are very fortunate to have the support of the Sitwell Estate and have recently received funding from the Arts Council to help to develop the show. Once we have created a full performance, we plan to take it on tour, and have already had a lot of interest from Literary Festivals, Venues, and Arts Centres who would like to book it.
However to do all this we still need to raise more money. Some of it will help us to continue creating, writing and supporting the work of the rest of the team. A larger proportion of it will go towards production, marketing and touring costs.
With your help 'Edith, Elizabeth and I' will be beautifully formed and on the road this Autumn, and next year (2014: the 50th Anniversary of Edith's death.) touring to venues around the country: where you can come and see it!
And... Now... We have the great opportuniy of working with the designer Katherine Richards. So, if we raise more then our target, we would add this to our costume and set budget so that Katherine can create appropriately stylish costumes and a stunning but suitably portable set.
