What Is Evolutionary?
'Evolutionary' is a short sci-fi film which will ultimately form part of a feature film. Written and directed by Oliver Crawford and produced by James Player.
The film has been in development for over a year and has turned into an ambitious, exciting sci-fi project that has had contributions from people across the globe. The aim of the film is to push the limits of people's expectations when working within a low budget and prove just what can be achieved when you get the right team involved.
Both of us work in the UK Film Industry on a day to day basis and this has allowed us to call in some of our closest friends to work with us on the film. By assembling a crew who have amassed over 200 feature credits between them, including Harry Potter, Die Hard 5, Hitchiker's Guide, Enemy At The Gates and more, we have an amazing pool of talent at our disposal to do the script justice.
More than anything though this a project we are all incredibly passionate about. What started with a simple idea has already spiralled into something bigger and better than we ever imagined due to the enthusiastic response the script has had from everyone who's read it. We are honoured to have such fantastic names on board already and with a little help from yourselves we look forward to taking the project into the next phase and start the cameras rolling!
The Story
Sector 13 are an elite Special Forces team. Their mission - to hunt and eliminate vigilante alien terrorist cells. For the past 50 years they have patrolled the earth, clearing the planet of any rogue beings who pose a threat to the military led government.
For months they have pursued one of the high ranking members of a renowned terrorist group known as ‘EVO’. Having finally tracked down its whereabouts to an abandoned warehouse, Sector 13’s Red and Blue teams move in for the kill. However, once inside they soon discover that the creature they set out to hunt is now hunting them.
Taking influence from classic sci-fi sources, ‘Evolutionary’ plays with the preconceptions of the audience and their perceptions of what they consider to be ‘alien’. Using traditional ‘physical’ special effects and expert stunt performers, ‘Evolutionary’ aims to push the limits of short filmmaking to a new level.
The Ethos Behind Evolutionary
The vision for ‘Evolutionary’ is to create a thrilling and engaging sci-fi film using traditional methods. With the genre currently relying massively on CGI, the aim is to stray away from this as much as possible by using ‘physical’ SFX, specially made props and sets and expert stunt performers to create a believable high-end looking science fiction picture on a micro budget.
Why We Need You
To take 'Evolutionary' into production we need your help. Your donations will help us take the film from the script to the screen as we start the production process. While we have pulled in as many favours as possible there are a number of areas that we sadly can't avoid having to pay for.
The majority of funding will go on the following:
- Eqiuipment Hire - Camera, Lighting, Sound and more
- Catering - Our crew are very kindly working for free so feeding them is essential
- Location - The warehouse in which we plan to shoot
- Insurance - Health and Safety is a must with our stunts and physical effects
- Post-Production - Editing, Grading, Sound Design and VFX
As a thank you for your help we have a number of rewards as our way of giving something back. These range from a simple thank you all the way to an executive producer credits. Other rewards include T shirts, DVDs and Blu-Rays, Art Prints and even a chance to be in the film. Every penny counts and if you feel you can donate in any way we will be forever grateful.
Delivery
Once we have all the funding in place we will start the formal pre-production process and schedule the shoot around the availability of our key crew. With this in mind we hope to have the film completed in its entirety and ready for you to see by the end of 2013. As you will see a number of the rewards can only be provided on completion of the film, however the quicker we get funded and the more money we raise then the faster we can shoot and get the film out to you!
Other Ways You Can Help
We understand not everyone can contribute financially but it's OK, you can still help! The biggest battle we have is getting 'Evolutionary' out there and into the public eye and this is where you can still make a difference. Tell your friends and family, post about it on social media, shout it from the rooftops and anything to help us get people talking.
The main ways you can do this are:
Thank You!
Finally thank you for taking the time to watch our video, read our campaign and donate what you can. This has been a long journey and a personal project for both of us and the fact that people are interested on the level they are is beyond what we ever imagined possible. Now lets go and make a film!
Thank you
Oliver, James and the Evolutionary Team
